The videos from the 2018 Spring Recital are finally up on YouTube! Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/playlist
Mark your calendars! And invite your family & friends!
What a whirlwind week it's been! Despite the weather, five (out of six) group lessons were able to take place this week! I hope the kids learned something new. Everyone had the chance to hear their peers perform and we all got to participate in some fun activities together. Now it's time for Spring Break! No lessons next week (March 26-30). I'll see everyone the first week of April!
Due to weather conditions: all group lessons are CANCELLED this evening. :( We'll do our best to reschedule! :)
Found this sheet music for one of my 8th grade students and wanted to give her a little "demo" video so she can listen to it at home. It's one of those beautiful and therapeutic pieces that you just want to keep playing over and over again... :) Thanks Jennifer Eklund Piano Music for writing such gorgeous music!
JUST A FEW ANNOUNCEMENTS: 1.) Group lessons are taking place next week (March 19-24)! No individual lessons ALL week--only come at your assigned group time. 2.) Spring Break is the following week (March 26-30). No lessons! We'll resume as usual the first week of April. :)... 3.) Spring Recital is Saturday, May 26 Check the studio calendar for more information: https://www.staceymcdonaldmusic.com/schedule
Two basic ideas concerning piano technique: 1.) how to make sure the bench is in the correct position (student Sojourner demonstrates) and 2.) having the perfect hand shape (Zachary demonstrates by making a "Fuzzy Home"). Students learn these ideas very early on in their piano studies and it makes a world of difference in their playing ability!
Isn't this a beautiful little piece? I love Mara's performance of it! (And just a touch of silliness at the very end!)
Two student recitals this past weekend: Lucas (age 8) & Eliana (age 7) both performed for crowds of their families & friends. Both kids prepared 11 songs each--that's a lot of music! Very proud of all their hard work!
Here's a fun little video of Cydney & I playing a song called "Safari Friends." Every section of the song is about a different animal (Lion, Zebra, Giraffe, etc.) and focuses on a different piano technique. Cydney's worked really hard on her technique this year and keeps improving! Great work!
Just a few smiling faces at their piano lessons! :)
Iva just started lessons a few months ago and she's been flying through her music! She comes to lessons prepared and excited to learn every week! Here's the two of us playing the classic tune "Old MacDonald" together last night.
Here's a short (30 second) recording of nine-year old Jadyn's new composition "Winter Detective!" I'm always so excited when students come to their lesson with ideas for writing their own songs. We worked on it together for 2 weeks and here's the duet we came up with!
