Worship for the 3rd Sunday of Advent

After consulting with Church Council, Sunday School WILL BE HELD this Sunday, December 13th at 10:15 a.m. We will be monitoring the COVID-19 situation, and remain in session as long as the Johnsonburg Area School District continues in-person instruction. Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, Recently, a tough decision was made to suspend worship for Christmas Eve. It was a sad and difficult decision, but one that needed to be made. According to the comments that I have read, many people agree that it was a necessary action. Now, we are faced with yet another difficult decision. We see COVID-19 cases hitting record levels of new cases and, in some areas, record deaths. Pennsylvania has re-instated mitigation measures such as l...imiting attendance at indoor activities to ten or fewer people, limiting restaurants to carry-out, delivery, and outdoor dining only, requiring a mask at all indoor activities, even when social distancing is practiced. It is also recommended that churches should seriously consider alternatives to in-person worship. Many churches in the synod have suspended in-person worship in response to the State’s new mitigation protocols. In conversation with several rostered leaders in the Northwest Pennsylvania Synod, I am finding that every on with whom I have spoken has gone to on-line worship only. Therefore, in light of all the above considerations, it has been decided that St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church suspend ALL in-person activities, including Sunday School, and moving to on-line worship exclusively. This would take place from now until January 4th. This was a decision that was extremely hard to reach. It may not be popular, but it is the right decision. Until such time as we go back to in-person worship, there will be worship videos on the St. John Facebook page. You are all in my prayers. Please pray for all the people who have been affected by COVID-19, as well as the frontline heroes that work so extremely hard to keep us safe. Pray also for St. John Church and also for me.
