Office Of Shenango Township Fire Chief 29.01.2021

This morning around 8:30am Stations 79 and 74 were requested to assist the Eagle Joint Fire District in Hubbard, Ohio with a fire in a duplex. E79, S79, and S79-2 responded with 6 firefighters. They assisted in overhaul operations on scene and helped re-rack hose and equipment on apparatus. For the hour or so that Shenango Firefighters were on this mutual aid call the City of Farrell Fire Department provided stand-by coverage for the Township should another emergency call come in. We would also like to extend a thank you to Ray Lucich of Armor Linings Inc. & Krown for washing E79 upon its return. During the renovation project at the Township building, E79 has not gotten the regular cleaning she deserves. We truly appreciate this gesture by a local businessman and fellow firefighter.

On Tuesday afternoon, at approximately 4:40 pm, Station 79 members were alerted to a single vehicle accident with injuries in the 300 block of Pulaski Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found that the driver had lost control of his vehicle coming through the S bends and slid off the road and into some trees. The driver had self-extricated prior to responders' arrival and had minor injuries. 7 members responded with E79 and E79-2 and assisted in assessing injuries and traffic control until the vehicle was removed by a local towing service.

In the past 24 hours, your Shenango Township Firefighters responded as mutual aid to two separate crashes on Interstate 80 and Interstate 376, respectively. Both incidents had the potential to cause serious injuries, but luckily no one was seriously hurt. Yesterday morning at approximately 9am, we were alerted to respond with the West Middlesex Fire Department and McGonigle Ambulance for a car carrier accident in the area of the 11 mile marker on I-80. Upon arrival, Chief 7...9 met with the ambulance crew on scene who confirmed no injuries associated with the car carrier, but that there was another vehicle near the 12 mile marker that needed checked. Chief 79 arrived and, with the help of crews from E74, removed occupants of that vehicle. Those occupants reported minor injuries and were passed off to awaiting EMS crews. Station 87 was also requested, as this accident was in their jurisdiction. Upon R-87 arrival, all 79 units cleared and command was passed from Chief 79 to Chief 87. S79-2, E79, and E79-2 were on scene. This was our 31st call of the year. This morning, Station 79 was dispatched to assist Pulaski Fire Department (Lawrence County station 500) on a tractor trailer rollover near the 4 mile marker on I-376. Chief 79-4 arrived on scene and reported one tractor trailer partially over an embankment with no injuries. S79-2, S-79, and E-79 responded to the scene, with E-79 taking a position on Route 551. Shenango firefighters assisted with patient assessment, fluid control, and traffic control. Station 79 responded to this morning's crash with 9 firefighters.

Upon arrival T-79 supplied water to Hermitage fire apparatus while our firefighters assisted in fire attack, ventilation, and overhaul operations. For the hour Station 79 personnel were on scene New Wilmington Fire Department staffed an engine in our station 2 on Mitchell Road. We also were able to keep S-79-2 staffed and available in the Township for any medical responses. Great job by all involved tonight.

November proved to be a fairly busy month for the firefighters of Shenango Township. The November run total was 36 total calls, with 21 of those being fire or rescue incidents and 15 QRS or medical assists. We have responded to 217 incidents this year which beat last year's record by 10 calls, with a month to go. And all this could not be possible without the support of our dedicated members, supervisors, and community.
