During these days of protest, and life in general, it is important to use your voice. We built Subsurface as a platform to connect all walks of life in our city of brotherly love. As these days go on, we continue to learn more about our community and ourselves. We participated in the blackout post yesterday, and it was brought to our attention from other community members, that we could do more. We listened, and whole heartedly agree. We can’t do it alone, we must unite with ...our community and talk together, it’s the only way we can achieve equality & safety for all human beings. We hold great love & concern with our Philly community, and would like to voice this now. Silence is violence. We pour our hearts & soul into creating safe spaces for people to come together and enjoy the gift of music, art, culture, & love.. free of the world’s toxicities. As we grow, we realize our role is beyond a party promoter and we intend to continue uniting this community. Philadelphia, we love you. This city means the world to us, we couldn’t achieve this dream without all of you powerful people. The last 2.5 years has been a beautiful ride for us and the Philly underground scene. We can’t wait to make more memories with you soon. ... Be safe & Be well.

As one of the founding DJs and promoters behind Philadelphia's legendary Special K and Circle parties (IT Parties, Yo-man), O'Keef played a vital role in pushing house music as the backbone of Philadelphia's local rave scene throughout the early 90s. During this time, he brought his unique blend of heady deep house and techno to hundreds of parties across North America and Philly-based residencies. Feeling uninspired by the US scene in the early 2000s, he took some much neede...d time away, but never the music. O'Keef has quietly re-emerged, DJing very much under the radar at select parties in Philadelphia like Rizumu, goodie, Drumsong, The Shakedown. We have had the pleasure of hosting O'Keef in May 2019 as we welcomed live set maestro- Steve O'Sullivan - Mosaic Records in collaboration with Sean Thomas of Drumsong Soundsystems. He has regained the respect of his peers as a choice selector in the Philadelphia scene, leaning heavily on his 25+ years of vinyl collecting. In 2012, O'keef began producing tracks with his long time collaborator Rob Paine under the guise of "Circle", with 6 releases now out across Leftroom Records, Worship Recordings and Dubwise labels. We are looking forward to seeing you all again very soon. Enjoy!

Our Next #Subsession podcast guest needs little introduction, as we welcome none other than- Jacob Herschel. You probably remember his work with rizumu, 52hz, and Philly's favorite summer weekly jam "Fountain Green". Jacob has played a pivotal part in Philadelphia dance music culture for more than a decade. Recently he relocated to Providence, Rhode Island where he has played part in hosting a DIY bi-weekly after hours parties with Symposium Records called "Beep & Klang". He ...has also been working throwing a monthly art gallery party called "Groove", helping further the scene in Providence. Jacob is no stranger to subsurface as he joined us in celebrating 10 years of Sean Thomas's Drumsong Soundsystems party in February 2019 featuring special guest Recloose.
