This is the wax up of a residential commission I’m currently working on. I miss my partner in crime, Nell Roemer.
Another great article about the "psychedelic colors" of stained glass in modern residential settings, courtesy of Architectural Digest. https://www.architecturaldigest.com//stained-glass-is-havi
A little while back, Rick presented a talk at Lafayette College's Skillman Library about two Tiffany windows that were restored under his leadership at Willet Studios back in 2002. The first window pictured, the Alcuin and Charlemagne window, was listed as "lost to fire" for years in an authoritative book about Tiffany's work. At Willet, while working closely with his mentor Crosby Willet, a graduate of Lafayette College, Crosby informed Rick that this lost Tiffany was not in... fact lost but languishing in crates stored on the Lafayette campus. The second window restored was The Death of Sir Philip Sidney. Rick spoke about the restorations and specifically the two very different fabrication techniques Tiffany used to solve the problem of supporting multi-layered stained glass. One of the "fun projects" I made for my own home, set in an antique wood frame. Curious glass and rich streakies from Hartley Wood, beautiful Blenko, the wild range of Lamberts with old ox eyes and reamies. Love this glass!
Here is a great article in House Beautiful written by Jennifer Fernandez about bringing stained glass into your home. So many beautiful ideas, with glass designs in so many styles.
Neo-Gothic, Modern and Abstract Stained Glass. Designs to fit any architecture and style. Stained glass fabricated in Philadelphia, installed nationally.
Baylor's Hillcrest Cancer Center in Texas commissioned four new stained glass windows. We worked with an out-of-house designer and architect to create two angel windows and two stained glass windows with scenes from the story of Christ's life.
Transoms with house numbers, colorful window treatments, and privacy solutions-- Rick has done it all. He delights in working with individuals and families to bring architectural art into their homes and create a unique statement in their living space.
Says Rick, "My friend and mentor Charlie Lawrence called me in October of 2018 to ask if I'd be interested in fabricating his latest four windows. Charlie has several of his windows in the National Cathedral in DC and has been one of the foremost stained glass artists since the 1960's. While we were preparing to start the work, Charlie passed away from cancer. His children and the church in Dover encouraged me to complete the project. After six months of labor these are the best windows I have ever made."
Meet Richard Prigg, owner of Sycamore Studio. A graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Rick has a critical eye for design and aesthetics, and over forty years experience in the stained glass craft. He started his career at Beyer Stained Glass, and later led Willet Hauser Architectural Glass, the largest stained glass studio in the US, as General Manager. During his tenure, he successfully managed $23 million of stained glass projects. Rick opened Sycamore Studio to pursue his own private art and continue the highest standard of glass craft. He is a member of the Stained Glass Association of America and has served on the board of directors of the American Glass Guild.
This client wanted an accent piece set in their newly installed wrought iron stair railing: an unusual challenge because it wasn't set in a window opening and therefore didn't receive the strong daylight a window typically receives. By using a strong design in the leadline, Rick was able to create an elegant work that reads in both reflected and transmitted light.
