The year 2020 has thrown us many curveballs so far. One of them? The fact that Tax Day was pushed back three months because of the coronavirus pandemic. At first, it may have felt like a relief, getting more time to file your taxes. But as each day passed and the extended due date quickly approached, there was a mad dash to the finish line. Well, we have sprinted across the finish line! We hit another curveball out of the park. We want to thank our tax and accounting team for the extra hours put in to get the job done for our clients, yet again. To our clients and other taxpayers, breathe a sigh of relief we made it! Let’s enjoy the rest of our summer and get ready for the next curveball 2020 will throw.

This year, Independence Day is different for many reasons. On Friday, President Trump signed the Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act (PPPFA) into law in order to address concerns voiced by small business owners regarding the original Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). These revisions affect how companies may qualify for the payroll tax deferral, as well as extending deadlines for re-hiring employees who were furloughed or laid off during COVID-19 business interruptions.

Memorial Day is for reflecting and honoring members of the military who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to ensure and protect our American way of life. As the country struggles with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve all had to adjust to a new normal a ‘normal’ that relies on members of the community putting American needs above their own. They have been called ‘essential’ by the media, but we know them as our family members, friends, and neighbors. This Memorial ...Day Weekend, as we honor our fallen heroes, we can also take a moment to recognize the heroes that surround us every day. Our teachers, doctors, nurses and first responders. Those of us willing to step up in any capacity, whether its delivering food to an elderly neighbor or simply putting others first. Our way of life might be changing, but the American spirit that unites us all remains steadfast - and is on display in its greatest glory when we as a nation are faced with adversity. This Memorial Day Weekend, honor those who have put our country above their own needs.
