This year we are grateful for every single one of our volunteers, as they have kept our garden going strong, despite the challenges 2020 has brought. Every single committee worked hard, and gardeners of all ages came together to help our community garden, which not only feeds our families, but also helps the surrounding community with programs like city harvest, which donates fresh produce to cupboards around us. As we put to our gardens to rest, we can look back at this year’s challenges and achievements: From navigating the first phase of water installation, a hot summer, a Spotted Lanternfly infestation, and COVID-19. The pandemic meant that we haven’t had the usual garden events: Our garden, which depends on our annual fees and donations, has missed the fundraising aspect from these events, and we the community, have missed the emotional wellbeing we get from spending time with e...ach other. Thanks to our fundraising efforts, and donations from the Spring Garden CDC, we were able to bring water into the garden this year, and we are well underway to being designated an urban garden in perpetuity. This means that we are now able to not only maintain but improve the garden as a community resource for the benefit of the neighborhood, without fear of losing our garden to developers. While annual dues cover some operating expenses, it doesn’t cover improvements that enhance the functionality and productivity of our garden. Therefore, we are asking for your help and financial support. We are asking every gardener, and anyone that has enjoyed our events, to please make a tax-deductible contribution so OUR GARDEN can continue to grow. Don't forget! Today and tomorrow we are accepting food for Germantown Fridge as part of our holiday food drive. Today and tomorrow from 5-7 pm, stop by... and drop off any of the following items: canned goods, pasta, grains, cereals, nut butters, condiments, spices and PPE (hand sanitizer and masks). Everything we receive will be donated to the Germantown Community Fridge on Wednesday so that people can make use of goods for the Thanksgiving holiday.
