A very good and interesting read "... when Aikido becomes a system of fighting and resisting and striking and grappling, it is no longer Aikido. It is fine, but... it is no longer Aikido." "It is time to let Aikido be what it is. Let the practitioners of Aikido deepen their search of themselves, while keeping the art vigorous and dynamic and sincere. This does not involve a dance-like Aikido or a system of grappling. There is a healthy tension in between the two extremes that may be found." See more

"People say there are no fights in aikido, because it is a Budo of harmony, but what is harmony? Harmony is not just about not fighting or competing, it is abou...t building relationships with people... If you try to understand and accept the other person, he will understand and accept you as well. If you try to make others understand and accept you, but not the other way around, it leads to conflicts. So you first have to understand the other...Aikido is a way to learn these things. First adjust yourself to the other, and then make the other adjust to you as you wish. That was O'Sensei's way of teaching." Fr. Interview with Shihan Hiroshi Isoyama, 8th dan March 2017 by Guillaume Erad

Our Sensei may be a wonderful teacher and guide but remember that it is always a good idea to do our own study, to invest in our own learning and development. ...Don't always wait for your teacher. Start with a mirror. Observe the Aiki body shape and posture, let alignment reinforce the stance. Aiki weapons can serve as a reference. Check the physical, then check internally for center and grounding. Use the subtle body wisdom. Extend, expand, absorb, allow, root. Feel the sacred sphere and breathe. Review principles. Read and research history. Study intellectually and then study with the body. Involve the spirit. Even the most seasoned aikidoka knows that the learning never ends. So during our 'Great Pause', amidst the Covid, know opportunity to continue learning exists all around us. Go forward, be creative, and do your own study.
