We’ve got a little secret to share with you. . . What do people regret most? Well, of course this varies, but a common theme we’ve noticed is regretting not tending more to important relationships AND not being present in day to day life. .... . Today we invite you to be present instead of rushing through even if that means being present while waiting for your coffee or tea to brew, taking out the trash, you name it! . . Let us know if you’ll be practicing being intentionally present in the comments below, we’d love to hear from you! . . #therapyforwomencenter #TFWC #mindfulness #selfcare #selflove #beingpresent #mentalhealthmatters #phillytherapy See more

Does anyone else relate to this? And just to clarify- @therapywithmaddie is not talking about when your parents occasionally lost their temper and perhaps yelled at you. This happens, no one is perfect and parents are human too. She’s talking about if there was perpetual screaming, belittling, humiliating, and name calling. The type of yelling that reduces children to tears and continues beyond the point of exhaustion- the scary kind. ...She’s talking about emotional abuse. If this is something you experienced as a child, being in the presence of someone else’s anger, especially when it’s directed at you, can feel horrible. It can send you back to feeling like a helpless 6 year old. It can make you shut down, leave your body, or go into a shame spiral of panic and abandonment. Part of recovering from this in adulthood is learning how to stay in your body and stay present with someone else’s anger. There are many ways to do this- one of which is to learn how to soothe the body and bring it out of a fight/flight/freeze response when this happens. The body remembers, and these types of responses are habitual and automatic. It may feel like you have no control over it, but luckily you do. Over time the more you can work with yourself in these moments and self- soothe, eventually you will be able to withstand someone else’s anger without these intense reactions. I find that working from the bottom up which means working with body responses such as our breath, heart rate, and muscle constriction- tends to work well. Over time your body will learn that someone else’s anger is no longer a threat to you, you can withstand it. The body remembers but the body can also be re-programmed. It takes time, be patient with yourself. #therapyforwomencenter #TFWC #emotionalabuse #healing #healingjourney #copingskills #copingskillthread #anxietytips #depressiontips See more

Thanks micia for this important reminder! In order to truly process and move through a situation or experience you have to directly address it. Avoidance and minimization only prolong and hinder the process. You have to push through the discomfort, to get to the calm on the other side. Has anyone else ever caught themselves mid-judgement and just felt... gross? It’s human nature, and we sure have so we love @counselingwithkat’s insight here! . . Being judgmental can be fun... but being judgmental can also ultimately make you feel horrible. .... . We are hardwired to make judgments, so don’t judge the judging! Just start to become aware of when you’re doing it. . . Check in with yourself and notice how it impacts your emotions. Using a skill we call Nonjudgmental can help you reframe your judgments that we all have. It can help you feel more in control, put yourself in the other person’s shoes, and see what parts of the story you may be missing. You can see the other person’s behavior as understandable bc of what led them to that point. You can still be upset but you are suffering less than if you were in a judgmental mind. You look for what’s valid for you, and what is valid for them. . . Want more insight from Kat? This is your daily reminder to move in a way that feels good. Whether that’s going for a walk, doing some light yoga, or just stretching at your desk, be mindful of what your body needs and what movement looks like for YOU. . . We’re all staring at screens much more, and while technology can be great, it undoubtedly takes a toll on our bodies. It can be hard to fit regular movement in, but like our dance and movement expert, @erikapranzotherapy sh...ows, a seemingly simple stretch can make all the difference. . . Are you engaging in movement that feels good today? We love this friendly reminder from @therapywith_stephanie... vulnerability can be scary but it’s so important to remember that it is COMMON and very much influenced by our relationships early in life which, spoiler alert: we had no/very little control over! . . Here are 5 of our favorite ways to get the MOST out of therapy. . . We especially love number 3 because it’s something that isn’t talked about that often. .... . Sometimes clients come in to see us and talk about how they are experiencing anxiety or low self esteem but can not identify the exact thoughts that they have about themselves. . . As therapists, the more specific and honest you can be the more we can get a true sense of how you are doing. The more specific you can be about why or why not a homework assignment worked or what happened when you were unable to set a boundary the more we can help. . . Talking in conceptual or hypothetical terms can be confusing for both of us because we may not be talking about the same thing or exactly what you’re dealing with! . . Being open minded is also super important in being open to change! . . What would you add to this list? Would love to hear from you guys! . . #therapyforwomencenter #TFWC #healing #therapyiscool #therapy #mentalhealthblogger #mentalhealthmemes #stigmafighter #mentalhealthmatters #selfcompassion #selflove #growthmindset #copingskills #phillytherapy #therapytips See more

We love this reminder from @therapyforwomen! It can be so frustrating when a boundary is crossed, but it is helpful to remember that boundaries require maintenance. . . You may need to practice boundaries, adjust them if things change, have a follow up conversation, or remind someone of your boundaries. .... . Happy Friday! Trust us, you’ll want to read this whole caption @therapyforwomen has some serious insight on celebrating the small wins... . . Our culture likes to create narratives that only big events deserve to be celebrated. .... . Events like getting married, getting a new job, making money, creating a course, having a child, losing weight, etc etc etc. . . I have been trying to keep a journal because I saw some friends of mine posting what they do each day and was struggling to write down what I did. Hers seemed fun and interesting and mine was worked, took a walk, (maybe) exercised and watched tv. . . I realized mine weren’t as interesting as hers because I was discounting a lot of things I did because my brain didn’t even remember them bc they didn’t seem big enough to be worth celebrating. . . Things like: I took a shower, I played a board game, I listened to a podcast, I made a meal, I ordered takeout, I thought about how difficult this was, I cried. . . I am seizing this opportunity to make room for the ordinary moments right now, rather than only remembering big society approved things. . . Making it through another day or week matters. . . What if we started celebrating the small things? . . You are worthy of being celebrated. Take this post as me *officially* celebrating you. . . #therapyforwomen #therapyforwomencenter #TFWC #phillytherapy #philly #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthrecovery #covid19 #covid_19 #coronavirus #selfcare #selfcarethreads #selfcaretips #choosejoy See more

Does anyone else do this and not even realize it? Keep reading for some insight from eating disorder expert @livewellwithgabrielle . . Fat is not a feeling! When you say I feel fat, there is something else under that... An emotion and a physical sensation that is uncomfortable. When you say I feel fat you are likely saying I feel imperfect, inadequate, or anxious when we have these emotions we experience physical sensations such as tight...ness in our stomach, pressure in our chest, heaviness in our arms/legs, etc. Which feels like weight and our minds convert weight to mean FAT. So the next time you think I feel fat take a moment to step back and feel your physical sensations and identity the actual emotion you are experiencing right then and there instead of avoiding your emotions . . And gentle reminder you don’t need to jump into this idea all at once! Just noticing the verbiage you use when you talk about yourself is important . . #therapyforwomen #therapyforwomencenter #TFWC #NEDA #eatingdisordersawareness #eatingdisorderrecovery #eatingdisordertherapist #eatingdisordertherapy #edhelp #edandocd #erptherapy #exposuretherapy #therapist #edrecovery #bodyacceptance #bodypositive #bodyimage #fatisnotafeeling #fatisnotanemotion #mindfulness #physicalsensations #edtherapy #eatingdisordersupport See more

It’s no secret that self-care has become a hot topic and has become associated with bubble baths or other monetized options. . . We invite you to think of self care in a different way: ASK YOURSELF > what will my future self thank me for? What will best take care of me for tomorrow? Will I feel better or worse AFTERWARDS? Not during, or immediately (because anxiety can trick us into thinking we got relief from skipping at first) but after the event... or commitment is over? . . For example, if you’re sick, staying in tonight and skipping plans is something yo ur future self will definitely thank you for. But skipping plans due to anxiety is likely to only have you feel guilty. . . What will you all be doing to care for your future self? You may have heard of radical acceptance, but might be asking how the heck do you practice it? Thankfully, @therapywith_stephanie has it covered below! . . Resisting reality keeps us stuck and keeps us suffering. Accepting it will make us feel the opposite. That doesn’t mean it’s easy to do. In order to accept reality, we must practice #mindfulness and staying in the present, rather than trying to change the past. That’s impossible, let’s move on.... . . Avoid using judgement words such as good or bad. One way to avoid judgement is to stick to the facts. Check in with yourself and/or a situation and strictly look at the facts- this helps us look at things objectively. . . If you’re struggling with where you are, practice radical acceptance. As always, you can accept where you are AND want to change. There’s always room for both! . . #therapyforwomen #therapyforwomencenter #TFWC #dbt #dbtskills #dbttherapy #dbttherapist #radicalacceptance #acceptance #grief #griefjourney #griefandloss #selfcare #copingskills #trauma #traumarecovery #edrecovery #eatingdisorderrecovery #skills #itworks #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #therapy #therapyiscool #therapyforwomen #therapist #phillytherapist See more
