Did you know that last week was Pride in Foodservice Week?!?! We are beyond lucky and thankful for the culinary talents of our school chefs, Bryan, Mike and Mark. They are the talent and creativity behind our school lunches, dinners, family picnics, and so many other catered events on campus. We celebrated these 3 dedicated staff members with some pizza and cards made by our students. Thank you Bryan, Mike and Mark for all you do!! You really are #1.

Today's snow may have made the morning commute a little rough - but it has our Polar Bears Ski and Snowboard Club members looking forward to some incredible conditions for their weekly Thursday night trip to Montage Mountain! Thanks to a collaborative partnership with the Montage Mountain Ski School students are able to have full access to professional instruction each week.

The Deaf Rochester Film Festival (DRFF) has been hosting film festivals since 2005. Most films featured in the festival have been written, produced, created, and performed by Deaf and hard of hearing individuals and film production companies around the world. After being invited by the DRFF, the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf proudly entered two student-produced films into the Jr. showcase portion of the festival. One of these projects was called, Seat Belt Safety.’ It is a 60 second promo on the importance of wearing a seat belt and was produced by students in our Dual Credit College program with the Community College of Allegheny County. Check out the video below to view their powerful entry!

Today, the WPSD Physical Education department hosted the seventh annual Dan Emerick Wellness Walk. Although it looked a little different than in past years due... to social distancing guidelines surrounding COVID-19, the heart of the event remained the same. This Wellness Walk honors a great teacher, mentor, and deaf advocate - Dan Emerick. He always said "keep them moving." Dan was a Health and Physical Education teacher at WPSD for 34 years. He was a son of two deaf parents, was a gentle giant and always had a positive spin on life. Dan dedicated his time to the deaf senior citizens group and supported many WPSD fundraising events. He was a fabulous husband to his wife, Nancy and a proud father of his daughter, Shannon. Dan loved WPSD as well as the University of Pittsburgh. The walk is also a way to promote physical well being and health at WPSD. We thank everyone who enjoyed the beautiful weather and walked with us. --By Kathy Bartholow, Michael Hand, and Caitlin Mosholder
