Exciting news! We have received a generous $500 grant from the Philadelphia Foundation through The Marley Fund. Thank you to John Grogan and Jenny Vogt for the nomination we are so appreciative. This grant will help us meet the needs of our Dear Neighbors and the immigrant community in Philadelphia. We are so grateful for this opportunity! #ssjwelcomecenter

Thank you for all the ways you love and support the Sisters of Saint Joseph. We were founded in 1650 and we are still called to serve our ‘dear neighbors’. Our mission at the Sisters of Saint Joseph Welcome Center calls us to reach out to the immigrant community of Philadelphia with love, compassion and hospitality.

Some positive steps.

We were blessed to have Archbishop Nelson Perez visit the SSJ Welcome Center on October 1, 2020. He spent time in conversation with us about our ministry with the immigrants of Philadelphia. We gave him a tour of our space and he shared a blessing for our ministry, our ‘dear neighbors’ and our buildings. We were delighted that he visited and experienced what we already know is ‘holy ground on Allegheny Avenue’! God is good.

God did not want the resources of this world to benefit only a few. No, God didn’t want this. We must learn to share in order to grow together without leaving ...anyone out. Pope Francis Eric is from Tariba (Venezuela), he had to flee to save his life... Pope Francis has selected Forced like Jesus Christ to flee as the theme for the 106 th World Migrant and Refugee Day (WMRD) which will be celebrated on Sunday, September 27, 2020. His reflections originate in the experience of Jesus Christ and his parents as displaced persons and refugees. #DisplacedlikeJesus #ToShareinorderTogrow #WDMR2020 Learn more: https://migrants-refugees.va/world-day-of-migrants-refugees/ Video editing and Original Music: Enrico Selleri Illustrations: Francesco Rizzato

Today we remember Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the incredible life she lived. On how she would like to be remembered, Justice Ginsburg said, "Someone who us...ed whatever talent she had to do her work to the very best of her ability. And to help repair tears in her society, to make things a little better through the use of whatever ability she has. To do something, as my colleague David Souter would say, outside myself. ‘Cause I’ve gotten much more satisfaction for the things that I’ve done for which I was not paid." See more
