The next best thing to visiting in person is visiting through the window. Health and safety are our top priorities.

DON’T PANIC! Easier said than done. Next time you find yourself paralyzed by panic, use these self care tools to help it pass: 1. Keep your eyes open and choose one object to look at, or look into the eyes of a support person. 2. Put your feet on the floor. 3. Hold onto something. (Tactile stimulation initiates a process in the brain that decreases anxiety and increases concentration.) 4. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Breathe into ...your belly rather than your chest. Recommended by stress relief specialist Dr. Jennifer Stelter in a webinar entitled Emotional Management: The Importance of Self Care on July 14, 2020. Happy Dirt It turns out that handling rich soil exposes us to good microbes that increase the serotonin level in our brains. Serotonin is one of our body’s feel good biochemicals that is an antidepressant and immunity booster. Besides all the benefits of being in nature, actually getting our hands dirty while gardening or even handling food from the farmer’s market can uplift our mood. And, it’s another reason to let the kids get dirty while playing outside! Read more . . . https://hubs.ly/H0svG2Y0

In this McKnight's Senior Living guest column, Juniper CEO Lynne Katzmann shares information about rapid testing for COVID-19. "If we want to outrun this virus, then we need to keep these Americans safe and, to the greatest extent possible, COVID-19-free. The best way to do this is to make sure that everyone coming in contact with these people is disease-free. And the only way to do that without a vaccine is a test to ensure that those in contact do not have the active, comm...unicable virus. The way to do that is to test. And to test everyone who has not recovered from the disease, every day. I still believe that we are the greatest country, capable of amazing efforts for the public good. We need to put our efforts into rapid testing, make it widely available until a vaccine is ready, and prioritize our greatest and silent generations and their caregivers.Rapid, widespread testing is the only way to outrun COVID-19 short of an effective, widely distributed vaccine." Juniper, known for its innovation, particularly in its approach to integrating wraparound clinical care with the hospitality-forward social model of senior living, has pushed the envelope in certain aspects of its COVID-19 response. For instance, utilizing and piloting COVID-19 antibody testing, and establishing COVID-19 bubbles by having staff live on site. In another innovative move, Juniper is now working with a new partner, Oakland, California-based Dascenato to deploy more data-driven, rapid, reliable and cost-effective tests. "By leveraging Dascena’s process and molecular lab, test results should now be available within 24 to 48 hours. The accuracy of the tests also is better", Juniper CEO Lynne Katzmann said. https://hubs.ly/H0sv5Wr0

Every citizen should have a sense of belonging wherever they find themselves. May we all rise to the great task of building trust, peace and stability in our country. Our diversity should not be seen as a weakness but as our greatest strength. It is only by working together that we can build a resilient and thriving nation.Happy Independence Day!
