Burton's Total Pet

For those that might be interested in furthering their pet care education in an academic setting -- Burton will be teaching two 6-week courses at CCAC North this fall: Pet Nutrition (Course YBA-023-1450) and Aquariums (Course YBA-024-1450) From Burton: "This course on pet nutrition will focus on dog and cat nutrition by learning how to read pet food labels and what our pets should really be eating. In particular we will discuss the recent news regarding some pet foods causi...ng cardiomyopathy. If the program is well attended we will then offer future courses on reptiles, birds, and small animals. Beginning Aquarium Science will cover the basic science of keeping healthy aquariums and where we go wrong in beginning the hobby. We will discuss the concept of a community tank and why that is a misconception created by pet stores and fish equipment manufacturers trying to sell beginner equipment. This course will cover information that has been kept from the public for decades because marketers want to sell "stuff." The aquarium hobby is a beneficial learning experiences for people of all ages. Children and parents can actually connect by bringing this hobby home together. It illustrates the dangers we face in the outside world caused by poor water quality in our lakes, streams, rovers, and the oceans. It will begin to teach the concept of animal behavior by defining the niches each of the species inhabit in the wild and why it is import to understand them outside of our aquariums."
