Here’s something my dad taught me recently: The Philly Phanatic changed the mascot game for everyone paving the way for the dancing maniacs we know and love at all of our games. Happy Pride, Philly! This month, we’re celebrating Pride by lifting up the inspiring work of our neighbors @philly.bebashi . For all of June, we’ll be donating 10% of all our sales of Sunny Zwickelbier to support Bebashi’s work on behalf of Philly’s LGBTQ+ and Black communities. Bebashi was the first African-American organization in the United States to address the AIDS crisis. It remains one of Philadelphia’s largest community-based minority providers of HIV/AIDS e...ducation and services, and has grown over the years to offer even more invaluable resources to our communities. Just last week, Bebashi opened the Trans Necessities Closet to provide gender-affirming clothing and necessities for our trans neighbors. Give them a follow to learn more about the remarkable services Bebashi offers everything from a food pantry to community clinics. And come on by the brewery to enjoy a Sunny and support Bebashi’s good work. Happy Pride, fam!

HAPPY JUNETEENTH! In celebration of this jubilant day, our team members working today at the brewery, the Fair Chance Beer Garden, and the farmers market, will all be earning time and a half pay. This is going to be our policy moving forward, and we’ve updated our employee handbook to show it. How are you celebrating Juneteenth today? Here’s a few happenings that are on our radar. What did we miss?... Have a Sunny! For the whole month of June, 10% of all your Sunny purchases will be donated to our neighbors, @philly.bebashi , who offer compassionate health care and hunger relief services to Philly’s Black and LGBTQ+ communities. They are celebrating the release with other black-owned businesses in their beautiful garden, including @twolocals , @botanic_village , and @g.smoov_ Swing by the Juneteenth Celebration at Malcolm X Park for music and free food with @everybodyeatsphilly . Sign up to volunteer with @mamateefridge , a beautiful mutual aid effort that is feeding our communities across Philly including at our little yellow fridge at Triple Bottom! They just opened a pop-up grocery store check them out! It’s a beautiful day, folks. Enjoy it.

Block Party finally made its way to a real Philly Block Party this weekend! We first brewed this beer in the middle of the pandemic, and named it in honor of the neighborhood celebrations we so dearly missed. It feels SO DANG GOOD to celebrate with you all again!! And we are so glad Block Party could finally live up to its name

When it comes to neighbors, we couldn’t be luckier. The West Poplar community have shown such love and care to us as we’ve built Triple Bottom, and they continue to show up for each other and our neighborhood in such inspiring and dedicated ways. In the midst of the pandemic, the @westpopneighbors launched a monthly community cleanup that has grown into such a fun (and impactful!) tradition! This Saturday we are at it again. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would have been 92 last week. His messages about activism and justice, poverty and power, capitalism and community are still so acutely relevant that we’ve found both courage and discomfort in reflecting on them today. In honor of his life, and the honest and brave leadership he gifted us all with, we will be donating 10% of all of your purchases this week to the brave and dedicated folks at @ysrpinphilly . The Youth Sentencing & Reentry Projec...t lives in the spirit of Dr. King every day, pursuing dignity and justice for all people. A rare quiet day in this busy brewhouse. We have a 10-barrel brewing system, which means we can make about 20 kegs of beer, or 100 cases, at a time. Usually, it ends up being less than that because of loss in the process. For our flagships, Kyle will often brew the same beer two days in a row and fill up one of our 20-barrel fermenters, so we can make sure we have enough for y’all. Back before the pandemic, 99% of our beer was sold out of a pint glass in our taproom. We w...anted to minimize the carbon footprint of our beer (drink it 20 feet from where it’s brewed!), and we also wanted to save a bit of money. Canning is expensive when you don’t have your own canning line! When the pandemic started, we switched almost all of our beer to cans, thanks to a mobile canner that comes in a day at a time to help us. We have to book these canning days weeks and months ahead of time, which means Kyle then has to figure out how to fit as many brew days as possible and make sure each beer is ready by canning day. It’s a lot of logistics and planning, and we’re constantly looking at our color-coded calendars to figure out what’s next. Turns out Kyle is a logistics wizard thank goodness!!! We just canned a fresh batch of Training Montage and Stormy Escapes this week. Next up, we’ll have a new pilsner for you all to try at the end of this month. All the juggling is so worth it at the end of a canning day, when we get to crack open a fresh beer and take that first sip of great beer.

Philadelphia is allowing indoor dining to re-open at 25% capacity on Saturday, and we just wanted to let you know that right now we’ve decided this is still not the right journey for us at Triple Bottom. As we see the number of people in the US who have lost their lives to this virus climbing close to 400,000 and healthcare & essential workers having braved this deeply stressful and scary situation for almost a year now, we’ve decided that for us, the best way we can do our small part in serving our community is to keep our doors closed for now. We’ve still got you for pickup and delivery, and we’re loving seeing your beautiful masked faces at farmers markets on weekends. Be safe out there. Here’s hoping we’re almost through this.

More than 27% of people who have experienced incarceration are unemployed. That’s a huge number, and a boggling statistic when we consider that having a steady job that pays a living wage is one of the KEY ways to prevent re-incarceration. The Guild program at @muralarts is doing amazing work here in Philadelphia to change that statistic. Led by our good friend Will Cooper-Balis, The Guild gives formerly incarcerated individuals and young adults on probation the opportunity ...to reconnect with their community while developing job skills. They have taught us a ton and have even introduced us to some of our awesome team members! We’re motivated by the fact many of us are in a position to do something about this issue! We sent in our ballots this weekend and the bar across the street from the ballot drop box was blasting Gonna Fly Now - our Training Montage theme song. Felt like an omen. PHILLY, WE GOT THIS.

CRINKLE AND CRUNCH, our newest beers, are available at the brewery starting today. We tend not to use the word proud very often, since there is always more we want to strive for in our beer and our business. But, today on this crisp fall afternoon, we’re really proud of these two beers. They are purely delightful comforting and creative, balanced and beautiful, beers we want to drink again and again. Crinkle is a classic Festbier. Crisp and dry, bitter and sweet, with no...tes of lightly roasted chestnuts, crackers, and apricot jam. Crunch is a rich, malty Marzen. It’s both sweet and savory, and we taste pretzel crusts,pumpernickel bread, andspiced black tea. We are proud to share them with you. We hope they bring you joy.

Hello friends. Today was a bit of a tough day. The barriers around our nice little sidewalk bar were somehow knocked down overnight, and we’ve been working on rebuilding them all day while also getting ready for a big canning run tomorrow. You know when stuff is hard and then it just gets arbitrarily harder, because #2020? Well, that was today. But, you know what’s making us excited to get everything ready for you this weekend? Tamales. Yep, fresh, delicious tamales by @p...royecto_tamal are making their way to Triple Bottom for brunch and post-brunch patio snacks on Saturday. They’ll go perfectly with two new beers rolling off the line in time for the weekend. Thanks for the tough love, 2020. We’ll keep ploughing (trudging, crawling, somehow moving) ahead.

A couple weeks ago we shared that we’ll be spotlighting social justice leaders in Philly helping all of us stay more connected to each other and the inspiring work of local organizations pursuing equal justice and opportunity. In the pre-pandemic times, we often gathered folks at the brewery to connect over beers. (Beer is a pretty perfect way to bring people together, in our unbiased opinion .) But, since for now we’re mostly hanging out at a distance,we’re glad to shar...e the words of Bethany Stewart, a core organizer for the Philadelphia Community Bail Fund, with all of you here. You may have learned about @phillybailout back in June when they were helping to free protesters from jail. The Community Bail Fund does advocacy work and pays bail for people who can’tafford to pay for their freedom predominantly Black and brown Philadelphians. Right now, the Community Bail Fund is mobilizing people in support of 500 incarcerated women who the City recently moved to an unsafe building in Philadelphia. SUPPER CLUB IS BACK! This time our chef and community partner are one amazing double threat: Bunny Hop! Since the beginning of the pandemic, the West Philly Bunny Hop has built a MOVEMENT of amazing chefs and community activists to keep Philly fed. We’ve had a crush on them from afar and now are so honored to partner with them on this special Supper Club event next week! Think pork belly braised with Triple Bottom beer and served with fennel and apples, black lentil risotto, and Bunny Hop pie. And that’s just a teaser. Good Attitude is one of our all time favorite beers. It’s crisp but jammy, with a shy little strawberry twist from the glorious french hop, Barbe Rouge. Citra hops do what they do best in Good Attitude, bringing the deep tropical notes and bright citrus we all love. For a long time, we felt we weren’t getting Good Attitude *just* right. It’s always been good, but we wanted more. Kyle says we got it right this time, and our taste buds believe him. Hello Friday.
