Interesting article about Wayne Chaulk of Buddy Wasisname and the other Fellers. Troop 64 has enjoyed visits with Buddy Wasisname (Kevin Blackmore) and Wayne Chaulk on our travels to Newfoundland. I can picture the view from Wayne’s house as described in the article. Looking forward to another visit to Newfoundland once we get past this pandemic.

As many have guessed, Troop 64 has made the decision to cancel the 75th Anniversary Event. We had hoped to be able to reschedule the event for September or beyond, but it has become clear that an event is just not possible with current circumstances. We thank the dozens who responded to our original invitation and you will receive another communication shortly in regard to your RSVP. Thank you to all who have offered donations to offset the costs we have incurred in planning the event. We did create a program for the event which we will be printing soon. Should you wish to have a copy of this wonderful program that includes updated Eagle scout biographies please reach out to Samantha ([email protected]) or send a message through this Facebook page and we will be happy to give you the details.

TBT - 47 Years ago this week Troop 64, Carversville, PA, attended the 1973 US Scout Jamboree at Moraine State, PA. Our contingent consisted of (front row: Todd Mays, Scoutmaster Denny Michener, Jay Kyle, back row: Ted Nichols, Glenn Burd, Mark Tompkins and Rick Michener. The 1973 National Scout Jamboree was split between two locations: Farragut State Park, Idaho (August 1 to 7) and Moraine State Park, Pennsylvania (August 3 to 9) with the theme Growing Together. A total of ...73,610 Scouts participated in this first and only dual Jamboree that featured home troops as opposed to the traditional council contingent jamboree troops. The intent was to have one Jamboree at two locations, so event results and activities were shared and communicated between the two sites. There were no regional winners, but there was one Jamboree winner for each event. Scouts at the Jamboree West saw comedian Bob Hope and Scouts at the Jamboree East saw entertainer Danny Thomas. Firsts that occurred at the two Jamborees were the introduction of a Merit Badge Midway, an Arts and Sciences Expo, and the inclusion of a host of new patrol and individual competitions, including athletic events and an orienteering test. https://oa-bsa.org/history/1973-national-jamboree

Congratulations to Russ Mercatanti who was presented his Eagle Scout Award at a Court of Honor tonight. He is pictured here with his parents, Paul and Mary Mercatanti. Russ' Eagle Project involved redoing the New Hope-solebury Lower El School playground. His activities with Troop 64 included attending the BSA High Adventure Camp Sea Base in the Florida Keys and touring Newfoundland and Labrador and attending a Scout Jamboree at Camp Nor'wes - Scouts Newfoundland and Labrador, in the Terre Nova part of Newfoundland. Presenting the Eagle Scout Award was Troop 64 Scoutmaster Steven Okin. Advancement Chairman Jeff Wolf, Committee Chairman Eric Vogelsang and Assistant Scoutmaster Ted Nichols also participated in the ceremony. Russ will be attending Shippensburg University this Fall.
