It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we say goodbye to our beloved Mr. Penotti. Penotti joined our family in 2000 at the age of 3. He found Laurie, with those loving eyes and bright white star on that beautiful black face of his, when she was searching for her next dressage horse in Holland. In reporting back home on the progress of her search, she reported she found her Black Beauty, a 17 hand black Dutch Warmblood. Penotti wasn’t ‘easy’, a trait he maintained from da...y one. He certainly contributed to our riding skills, strengths and determinations. As a youngster, he could be quite the handful whether simply grazing (which could mean taking you for a walk) or under saddle, making you work for each and every outcome. Laurie and Penotti competed Prix St Georges in 2008-2009 before sustaining a hind suspensory injury in late 2009. Given a less than a 15% chance of recovery, he returned to the dressage ring in mid-2012 at Prix St. Georges. In 2013, the team competed Intermediate 1. Penotti was Laurie’s first FEI dressage horse; a proud owner’s accomplishment from training through showing. This team also earned USDF Bronze and Silver medals. Dressage work didn’t come ‘easy’ for Penotti but he was a solid citizen and a great companion to all his mounts. His seemed to hold values that each and every rider needed to earn the outcome, he certainly taught us that nothing was given for free but it had to be earned! Laurie generously gave Lydia, Justina and Jennette opportunities to ride and learn from Mr. Penotti and learn we each did. He gave us each unique, special lessons; we had to work hard too, remember nothing for free! In the barn, he was called Mr. P; it was all Justina & Jennette could say at first, so P stuck. Penotti and Justina were birthday buddies sharing the same birthday but P was the wiser of a year. At some point, Penotti became the schoolmaster. He became the trainer for the younger riders. As he got older and shifted to part-time retirement, he added therapeutic riding efforts to his resume. He was so patient and trusting, doing everything he could to make positive outcomes all with compassion and poise. While he did not go to the therapeutic horse shows, he got all the credit for preparation efforts and excellent outcomes. Penotti was truly a big part of all of us at Trotwood’s Eden. Season's Greetings from these cuties in anticipation of their 1st Christmas! While most of the gang are in their new homes with loving families, we wanted to share some of our pre-holiday activities.
