By Mike Austin on Sep 12th, 2019 "The Tucker 48 is rare. Preston Tucker's struggles with funding his start-up auto company, including a fight with the SEC he eventually won, resulted in a mere 50 cars produced plus the original "Tin Goose" prototype."

Tucker #1019 was on exhibit at the San Diego Automotive Museum in Balboa Park for many years. It was most recently on display at the Blackhawk Museum in Danville, CA where this photo was taken during a screening of Francis Ford Coppola's "Tucker: The Man and His Dream".

Did you know that Preston Tucker attempted an air cooled version of the Franklin 335? Here's a dream come true Tuckeroo. Francis T. Fuzzy Fruzyna was a man of modest means until he won 9 Million bucks in a Wisconsin lottery. He went out and did what a lot of us would. He bought a Tucker 48 and unlike many owners he drove it. He brought his car to the 1997 TACA meet I hosted and was a gracious generous soul with a great sense of humor. He passed away in 2003 I believe. As you can see from his headstone, he loved Tucker. RIP Fuzzy.

The parallels between Tucker and Bricklin abound: Both were meant as safety cars, both created by confident and optimistic founders and both sought the automotive design talents of Alex Tremulis. Here's some sage advice from a 1970s Tremulis to Malcolm Bricklin reflecting back on his 1940s experience with Preston Tucker. The middle inset with Tremulis includes Tuckers #1002 (Goldie), #1014 (Tremulis' test driver while at Tucker Corp), and #1017 (Keith and Eileen Carpenter's "Preston"), all at TACA founder Bill Hamlin's house.
