Would you like your child to learn how English really works? There are three pieces to the puzzle (phonology, morphology, and etymology) and yet most only focus on phonology (sound). Taking a phonology only approach can give you an incomplete picture. Look at how we study words with matrices and word sums. We discuss the interactions of morphemes (meaning) and phonemes (sound) and how English spelling conventions (rules) work.

Some ‘sight words’ are phonetic, some are based on morphological boundaries, and some have amazing etymological stories to tell. This screenshot shares the building blocks of morphology that a 1st grader and I have been discussing.
