Let me tell you...I love these people right here!! We are a small but mighty team! It’s report card time and we had to figure out what parent/teacher conferences would look like. We could have bypassed them but they were needed! So we’ve been on Zoom from 11-7 (with significant breaks) meeting with parents. Parents came in back to back and we were able to have some very good and much needed discussions with them. I’m so grateful for the commitment of our teachers. They are so committed to making sure our students have every opportunity to survive this uncertain online experience and I am totally indebted to them. Thank you Lord that they are here to serve as well as teach -Principal Heather

Running a vocational school during covid is NOT easy. Yesterday was our last day in shops until the restrictions are lifted. We will be focusing on the book curriculum until we can get back to practical application & changing the calendar to do full week intensives in shops to cover lost ground. I am thankful for our flexible teachers and their willingness to adapt.

Today was our student’s first day back. They come in once a week for their vocational classes. It was so great to see them without a screen between us!!!!

Vocatio offers a full range of both academic and elective classes. We meet all state guidelines and upon graduation, our students are fully prepared for their next step whether that’s attending college or taking the workforce by storm. Our academic offerings include: Core Classes: Math (Algebra I & II, Geometry & Calculus) Science (Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry)... English (I, II, III & IV) Spanish (I & II) History (World History I & II, American History) Health Physical Education Bible (I, II, III & IV) Electives: Art Acting Music Production Coding African American/LatinX History Business Entrepreneurship Our teachers are fully committed to providing an amazing learning experience for our students. Their lesson plans not only include lecture but reinforcement activities, projects, group discussions and real world examples ensuring that with each class, our students become more well rounded. Vocational Classes We want our students to be prepared to excel in the workforce. Our vocational instructors are not only experts in their fields, they are individuals who have amazing hearts for youth and have dedicated their lives to ensuring that today’s urban youth have every opportunity needed to compete in today’s workforce. Our vocational offerings include: Digital Media Carpentry Welding For those students that want to enroll in post high school vocational training, they will have a strong foundation to propel them to the head of the class. For those that are ready to hit the ground running and enter the workforce directly from high school, the classes and internships provided will prepare them to dive in fully experienced and prepared to become certified in their chosen vocation.

As we move into the 2020-2021 school year, we have made the decision to continue virtually for our academic and elective classes. At this time, we feel that this is the safest option for both our students and our teachers. We know virtual classes can be challenging but our teachers have brainstormed creative ideas for their classes that we know the students will love. Vocational classes have a need for hands on interaction in order to learn the various components. In light of... this, these classes will meet in person. Due to the smaller class size (no more than six students per class), we can effectively social distance without compromising the student's safety or their hands-on learning experience. This will also give students the opportunity to connect with each other safely despite most of the time being in school virtually. WOW.....We just completed day 1 of Trauma Informed Training and just WOW. So thankful for Coleen Felder! I'm super excited for Day 2 tomorrow. This is just the beginning. We are making sure that we are more than prepared for anything our students need!
