On Saturday February 13 2021 at approximately 17:37 White Mills Fire Dept was dispatched to reports of a commercial structure fire at 139 Texas Palmyra Highway at Dick Palmers and Sons, within 3 minutes of dispatch a Captain of the Honesdale Fire Dept. (13-40) arrived on scene reporting confirmed working fire. At 17:42 32 AC requested a 2nd alarm bringing Hawley Fire Dept engine2, Seelyville Fire Dept engine, Honesdale Fire Dept. engine1, ladder2 and ladder4, and Beach Lake F...ire Company engine1, engine2 and squad5. At 17:46 13-40 requested a tanker task force including Hawley tanker, Seelyville tanker, Beach lake tanker, Welcome lake tanker, and Prompton tanker. At the same time 32 Captain requested 2 additional tankers out of the Lakeville Fire Dept. At 18:07 Seelyville Chief assumed command reporting fire in the roof line. At 18:08 water supply was established at the route 6 mall. At 18:13 Seelyville Chief advised crews where opening up the roof with 2 hand lines in use, also requesting lake ariel engine1 for RIT. At approximately 18:25 a 3rd alarm was requested and the building was evacuated due to fire conditions in the roof. The 3rd alarm brought in Honesdale Fire Dept. engine3 and rescue7, Welcome Lake Fire Dept. engine, Waymart Fire Dept engine and tanker, Forest Fire Dept. engine, ladder and tanker Tafton Fire Dept engine and tanker and Greeley Fire Dept tanker. At approximately 18:30 32 Captain assumed command of the incident and requested Lake Ariel rescue for man power. At this time several units were requested to fill stations throughout Wayne county to cover. At 19:06 a second fill site was established on Bethel School rd. At 19:11 32 Captain requested an excavator to the scene to assist. At 19:18 State Police Fire Marshall was requested. At 19:34 additional units were requested to cover additional areas in the county due to the 2nd fire in Honesdale Borough. At around this time the excavator arrived on scene and assisted with removing debris so the fire could be extinguished with hand lines and the ladders. At 20:54 32 Captain advised the fire was under control cleaning up hot spots. At 22:15 the fill site on Bethel School rd was advised they can tear down the fill site and return to service. Also at this time 32 Captain advised some assisting units to return to service. At 22:43 fire was extinquished and all units were cleared and returned to service by 32 Captain. At this time incident is being investigated by Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal. A special thank you to Wayne County EMA, Seelyville Chief, Hawley Chief, Honesdale Chief, Deputy Chief, Captains 13-40 and 13-20, and Lieutenant 13-11. Last evening we were dispatched to Dick Palmers and Sons for a working structure fire. Quick responses and great team work from many different companies the fire was put out and other surrounding buildings were saved. Thank you to all our neighboring companies for your help this evening. Thank you to all businesses that donated coffee and food for all our men and women. Want to say a huge way to go to our Wayne County Dispatchers They had their hands full last night but did a fantastic job. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Dick Palmer family.

Tonight our very own Kenny Batzel was awarded the Honesdale Area Jaycees 2020 Emergency Services Responder of the Year award. We are very honored to call him ours. This mans selflessness goes beyond words. He spends many hours on the ambulance each week and never complains. His family also sacrifices alot so he can be there to help strangers. Thank you for your service Kenny. We appreciate all you do for the department.
