Women for a Healthy Environment 12.11.2020

Are you a friend of WHE but live in another part of the country and haven't been able to attend any of our events? Well, now you can! Our event next Wednesday evening featuring Rob Bilott is VIRTUAL! Mr. Bilott is described as "the tenacious environmental lawyer who became 'DuPont’s worst nightmare,' according to The New York Times." The story in his book, Exposure: Poisoned Water, Corporate Greed, and One Lawyer’s Twenty-Year Battle Against Dupont, inspired the major motion... picture, Dark Waters (November 2019), featuring Academy-Award nominee Mark Ruffalo as Rob Bilott. To register, visit this link... https://www.eventbrite.com/e/whe-create-change-featuring-sp Registrants will also receive a link to the movie, Dark Waters! See more

"A recently released study shows that 22.4% of children in Clairton have asthma and are getting sick at a rate that is three times higher than the national average. The study’s author, Dr. Deborah Gentile, is director of allergy and immunology at East Suburban Pediatrics and medical director of Allergy and Asthma Wellness Centers. Gentile, who will see patients at Clairton’s new clinic every other Tuesday, had an integral role in setting up the facility." Congrats to Dr. Gentile, a member of WHE's Science Advisory Committee! We look forward to our continued collaboration in the Clairton community.

ALERT! Today is an Air Quality Action Day (Code Orange - Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups) for fine particulate matter in the Liberty/Clairton region. People with heart or lung disease, pregnant women, older adults, and children should limit time outdoors today. Also eliminate fireplace and wood stove use, if possible; avoid open burning of leaves, trash and other materials; and avoid the use of gas-powered lawn and garden equipment. This is day three of air quality alerts due... to pollution at the Clairton Cokes Works. Contact the Allegheny County Health Department with concerns. When we have these weather inversions, polluters must decrease their emissions! https://alleghenycounty.mycusthelp.com/WEBAPP/_rs/(S(dz0ievgq2te0i52k5e2cz1sz))/supporthome.aspx
