YMCA Lighthouse Project 23.10.2020

Learn how to make bangin' remixes with free music production software. This 10-week virtual course will also explore the connections between remix culture and social justice. The course begins October 27th and includes virtual group instruction and one-on-one production sessions. Professional DJ's and teaching artists David Shoemaker (DJ Shoe) and Jordan Taylor (Tracksploitation) will lead students as they work towards producing original remixes of local artists’ songs. Alon...g the way, students will explore various approaches to remixing and their impact on Black dance music and racial inequality in the music industry. All participants will receive Ableton Lite and a USB drive with acapellas, loops, and instrumentals. For students without a laptop, Lighthouse will lend this necessary learning tool for the course’s duration. Open to youth ages 14-20 living in the Pittsburgh region. No prior beatmaking or djing experience is required, just apassion for music and/or social justice. Calling teen musicians, singers, rappers... join a community of songwriters and learn new techniques to grow your craft. Collaborate virtually with peers and record in our studio. Sessions are lead by expert producers DJ Thermos and Jay Card. Sessions start October 15th. Every Thursday, 4-6pm.
