It’s World Otter Day! You can help river otters by keeping water free of pollution and litter. If you see an otter in the wild, you will know there is clean water and a healthy habitat. Link and Iris live at ZooAmerica to teach visitors about their species and why you should conserve the habitat of their wild counterparts. Due to restrictions on hunting and trapping and conservation of their habitat, otter numbers have continued to rise over the last 50 years! ... Did you know? River otters have long whiskers to help them sense prey underwater. They love fish, but may also eat birds, amphibians, invertebrates, small mammals and crustaceans. : John Cordes #WOD21 #YouOtterKnow

Can you help us at ZooAmerica and plant flowers to feed monarchs as they prepare for their cross-continent migration? You can keep butterflies safe by planting flowers in a pot on your windowsill, your yard, or your community garden! Our Pollinator meadow is ready for them the asters and goldenrod are spectacular this year and we regularly see monarchs feeding. Swamp milkweed (Asclepias incarnate) and Butterfly milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa) are native milkweeds that will feed the migration when the monarchs come to our community here in Hershey, PA. Find native milkweeds at your local nursery and plant them now so they are ready for the spring--and don’t forget flowering plants for the adult butterflies, too! #PlayitSAFE #SAFEMonarchs #FeedTheMigration #SavingSpecies #SAFEMonarchNetwork
