Thanks to our handful of volunteers for persevering through this pandemic. Drive-through makes more prep work for us and lots of lifting for a few, but best for protecting our community. We know others have offered help and we thank you all, but to minimize contact, it is best we stay small and mighty. And while Covid 19 has been devastating, we have received some big grants and extra food to feed our neighbors who are struggling through all of this. If you know of someo...ne who needs help, please let us know. This mess isn't over and we are now coming into the regular flu season and we really need everyone to do their part to help reduce transmission. Please wear your masks and social distance and stop with the big gatherings. None of us like wearing masks and isolation and we are ALL frustrated and tired of this health crisis and want it to be over. Be safe - stay healthy - love your neighbor. Peace to all! See more

Be thankful for all that you have; be kind; and love one another. They huddled inside the storm doortwo children in ragged, oversized coats. ‘Any old papers, lady?’ I was busy. I wanted to say nountil I saw their feet. Little sandals sopped with sleet. ‘Come in and I’ll make you some hot cocoa.’ There was no conversation. Their soggy sandals left marks on the hearthstone. I served them cocoa with toast and jam to fortify them against the chill outside. Then I went back t...o the kitchen to work on my household budget. The silence in the front room struck through me. I looked in. The little girl held the empty cup in her hands and looked at it. The boy asked, ‘Lady, are you rich?’ I looked at my shabby slipcovers. ‘Am I rich? Mercy, no!’ The girl put the cup in its saucercarefully. ‘Your cups match your saucers.’ Her voice was cold with a hunger not of the stomach. They then left, holding their bundles of paper against the wind. They hadn’t said thank you. They didn’t need tothey’d done more than that. Much more. Plain blue pottery cups and saucers, but they matched. Potatoes in brown gravy; a roof over our heads; my man with a good steady jobthese things matched, too. I moved the chairs back from the fire and tidied the living room. The muddy prints of small sandals were still wet on my hearth. I let them be. I want them there in case I ever forget how rich I am! Saddened to hear of Nancy Koul's passing. If any of you were with us at EUMC, she and Trudy McPherson were the managers of the pantry who mentored us 15 plus years ago. They are sadly both gone now, but have a special place in our hearts forever. R.I.P. Nancy <3 https://www.berkebilefuneralhome.com/obituary/Nancy-Koul
