In the middle of prom and wedding season... I thought it would be helpful to shed some light... My prices for special occasion hair/makeup are extremely low if you consider the following: ... - I do not offer the same price no matter what you are getting done. For example, full glam is priced a little higher than basic natural makeup. Same with different hair styles. - The products I use are professional quality costing upwards of $1,000+ per face. That means that in order to have many options available for several looks, skin tones, and types, my entire professional kit costs thousands of dollars and hundreds of dollars a month to maintain. - I am a licensed cosmetologist - not just a makeup artist. That means I am certified in hygienic health and all of my tools and products are sanitized and safe. - Because of all of these factors my first year working as a makeup artist I was losing money, not making money, charging sometimes only $20 for makeup. My profit off of total cost now is still only about about 15%. That means sometimes I only make 7 dollars per client. That means the $$$ I put into this business, time into preparation, and hours driving to you to make it more convienent for you and your event is only making me SEVEN DOLLARS. That is not even half the cost of the kind of mascara I use. Keep in mind I am still paying off my student loans from cosmetology school. Luckily I have 50 million other jobs Anyway, here's a pic of another makeup artists frustrations lol.
