Check out our Open Mic! Lots of talented youth out here - please keep an eye out for our next one and ways you can sign up to perform! Powered by Restream https://restream.io/
I would ask [our civic leaders] to put real thought and effort into the reopening plan. Don’t rush it. Spend time. Make it a comfortable place that you would want to send your kids to. I don’t feel like they did that before the pandemic, they aren’t doing it now. They don’t put care into the conditions they are putting us in. Before they send people to school, the option to get a vaccine should be available to everybody that’s going back. There shouldn’t be a question of who deserves it. We all deserve to be safe and have that option. - Zion Brooks, PSU Youth Leadership Team
We have some exciting news! On February 24th were hosting an Open Mic on IG and Facebook. We’re asking all young people who want to share their artwork, poetry, music or whatever they are passionate about to register at bit.ly/psuopenmic. Invite all of your friends to perform and attend a great showcase of young talent. We hope to see you there!
So fun being a guest judge for Fishadelphia.Csf this week! Please check them out - a really cool way to support young people AND local fisheries.
Shout out to Black Organizing Project for this great look at the history of this fight. Youth power and the fight for not just schools and communities has deep roots in Philly and across the land.
Meet our first Guest Judge for our Great Philly Fish-Off cooking competition: Philadelphia Student Union PSU: "The Philadelphia Student Union exists to build ...the power of young people to demand a high-quality education in the Philadelphia public school system. We are a youth-centered organization and we make positive changes in the short term by learning how to organize to build power. We also work toward becoming life-long learners and leaders who can bring diverse groups of people together to address the problems that our communities face." Stay tuned for PSU's top dish, which we'll be announcing along with the winner from the public vote on Friday! #FishadelphiaCooks Edited by: Narry Veang
The Philadelphia Student Union stands in solidarity with Philadelphia’s public school teachers in their fight against an unsafe return. We got your back!

Thanks so much to Ms. Pam Africa for joining us today! She encouraged us to lease with consistency and love in the face of deadly adversity. Thank you, Pam and thanks to all of you for joining us! We will have more in the future!
Philadelphia Student Union's Statement on the Current Moment and Our Call for #PoliceFreeSchools and to #DefundThePolice: The anger and frustration in the streets of Philadelphia and across the country are not just because of what happened to George Floyd, Breonna Taylor or Ahmaud Arbery. People are angry because, for years upon years, black people were being murdered by police. They are frustrated because, for years upon years, calls for justice were ignored. People are tire...d of being ignored. They are tired of being terrorized in their communities. And the energy we are feeling now can not end here. We have gone through too much for this issue to go back into the closet. Therefore, the Philadelphia Student Union calls on the School District of Philadelphia to commit to police free schools. See the rest of our demands on the link below. CAR CARAVAN FOR SAFE REOPENING FOR PHILLY SCHOOLS Friday 11/6, 4:00pm 440 N Broad With the reopening fight heating up, WE's Reopening Working Group wanted to reach out to our allies about collaborating around fighting for a safe reopening! Even though students won't be going back until late November, Pre-K to 2nd grade staff are supposed to report to buildings next Mon, 11/9 (plus nurses, psychologists, counselors, special ed, secretaries, and everyone else that support those... students). We have a few specific ideas for collaboration, but are also very excited to work with you all on whatever is best for your communities. @caucusofwe No one can go back into schools until it is safe for everyone! If you’re a youth, I encourage you to join a program like PSU, cuz a lot of people underestimate us and think we can’t do this that or the third. But youth are the ones out here fighting for justice. I want to send my condolences to #WalterWallaceJr family. ... I’ve seen this so many times that all I can say is wow again. I think a really big change needs to happen but I’m pretty sure we all think that, something just needs to be done. We’re pushing to remove police from all schools because they do way more harm than good.
#BlackMomsMatter
I’m tired of cops, cameras, and metal detectors in my schools. Where are the guidance counselors, and psychologists? Youg people are dealing with depression from what’s going on in the world, and barely have the energy to show up to school, let alone to take tests and do work. ... That’s why we need #PoliceFreeSchools and youth need to know that WE have the power. - Philly Student Union leader and senior speaking at today’s Turn for Black Youth event with Black Lives Matter Philly and Philly Black Students Alliance
#FreeAllPoliticalPrisoners
