I think the biggest challenge in our industry right now is how to stay relevant in what we can only describe as a holding pattern. Sitting around discussing how bad it is is the best way to not move forward and recognize opportunities. At least for me. Today, I did the orientation with the Pennsylvania Restaurant & Lodging Association to be on the board for the Lehigh Valley Chapter. This group is the biggest advocate for all of us, especially this past year. I encourage ...all of my fellow owners to at the very least attend some open virtual meetings to help you understand the actual actions happening right now. They are open to non-members. Second, I am super excited to have also been asked to serve on the Advisory Board for the Northampton Community College Hospitality Management program! Anyone who knows me, knows I am all about advancing skill and knowledge sets through learning. To be able to use my over 30 years of industry experience in both of these opportunities is a welcome positive change. We hope everyone had a very MERRY Christmas! To say we were busy with Christmas Eve pickups wouldn’t even encompass what it was like. And for 97 of you who picked up and patiently waited for us to get to you, our sincerest thanks! Our team worked so hard and I hope you enjoyed your food! We don’t expect New Years Eve to be as busy, but it’s our last menu scheduled for the year and we have very little scheduled until spring as we optimistically await increased allowances in... gatherings! What hasn't been said about 2020 already? The clock will change at midnight and usher in a new year, but we do know that all of our troubles will not magically disappear. But I think we can all say that our perspective this year was forced to change to mentally survive the constant barrage of media, friends, family, and politics, to handle more negativity than most of us have ever encountered in our lifetime. This past fall, we told everyone about Chef Crystal L Ortiz who took over our former space by Dunkin in Emmaus and opened Star City Bakery & Catering. We were so happy to be able to refer her to the dessert portion for our large client meals today.
