The greatest gift you can give yourself is to forgive those that you have wronged you. If you hold a grudge, or hold on to the hurt and refuse to forgive in bitterness, the only person that you hurt is yourself. Hold on, stay with me for just a few more moments We can try to hide behind the pain, or tell ourselves that we’re going to make sure we can’t be hurt again. We think that if we forgive, we’re just opening ourselves up to be hurt again. The problem is that when y...ou hide behind that barrier, you also can’t be open to let God’s love and healing to come in to your heart. Jesus tells us: 14 "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 "But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. [Matt 6:14-15 NKJV] No, it doesn’t make sense from the perspective of the world. It’s not what the world tells you that you should do. But it is what God is telling you that you should do. We can spend our lives doing the things that the world tells us we should be doing. Many are brought up thinking and acting the way that the world tells us to act, and look at where it’s gotten us. How many people are truly happy? How many are truly content? We always want more, we always feel like we need more, that we deserve more, and so many times we don’t appreciate the blessings we already have right in front of us because we are too busy looking for the next thing. It’s the ways of this world that have gotten us where we are. We can’t get the peace and joy and the happiness that God wants to give us by continuing to do the things the world tells us we should do. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned. [1 Corinthians 2:14 NKJV] The things of God are foolishness to those that think they know everything. It’s not intuitive to do the things that the Bible tells us we should do. Forgiving when we have been wronged, or serving when the world tells us we need to be taking the lead. But it is the right way. Happiness is temporary. Contentment and joy are long term. We can have God’s Spirit living in our heart and find out what true joy and contentment are all about when we find our way to stop trusting in the world and start trusting in Him. What do you have to lose? You can choose to either keep holding on to your grudge and keep carrying the weight, or you can try God’s way and drop that grudge and bitterness at His feet. Don’t keep carrying a weight that you were never intended to have to bear. Give it to Jesus. God Bless
