VERY EXICTING NEWS TO SHARE Our baby flamingo is back on exhibit! In August, our animal team noticed Flaca (yes, it's a girl!) was having trouble standing and using her left leg. So our team intervened, took to her to the animal hospital and went to work on a plan to get her back on her own two feet. Watch her journey, and learn how our quick-thinking vets and animal staff helped her regain her strength and reunite with her flock.
Reservations for today, Sunday, November 8, are SOLD OUT. It's a great time of year to spend a day at the Zoo with the whole family! Reserve tickets now for next Friday through Sunday: https://philadelphiazoo.org/reopen/
Looks like Koosaka found a smell she likes! Our keepers sprinkle different scents around the big cats' exhibits as a part of their enrichment program. Scents include cinnamon, lavender, clove, mint, and even cheap perfume! If the cat likes the smell, he or she will rub and lick it.
TEACHERS! Registration for Philadelphia Zoo's UNLESS contest is now open! Did you hear the news? Our UNLESS Contest has been awarded the National Innovation Education Award by The Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Learn more and register now: https://philadelphiazoo.org/unless-contest/
All November we’re highlighting #WhatWereThankfulFor. We’re thankful for our conservation partners all over the world, including Save the Golden Lion Tamarin. Right now, a wildlife bridge is being built to connect fragmented golden lion tamarin habitats in Brazil, thanks in part to our collaboration. We look forward to our continued partnership, connecting people with wildlife and working together to save this beautiful species!
Happy 28th birthday to our darling orangutan, Tua!
Today on PhillyZoo@2 we're learning all about animal nutrition with our Nutrition Program Director. What does it take to feed 1,300 animals each and every day? And how do you keep animals close to 100 years old healthy through what they eat? Ask any questions you may have in the comments!
Please enjoy this break in your timeline, courtesy of our matamata turtle.
