MOVE OVER, IT’S THE LAW! National Move Over Day is on Saturday, October 17th. It began in 2014 by the Arizona Professional Towing Association to help raise public awareness to the Move Over Law. The National Highway Safety Transportation Administration (NHTSA) estimates that over 70% of drivers in the United States aren’t familiar with the Move Over Law; we NEED to change that. All 50 states have enacted Move Over laws with the first law enacted in 1996. Senate Bill 1281 ...is currently in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and is expected to be heard in the House Appropriations Committee on October 19th, this is an enhanced Move Over Bill. Each day, emergency responders and highway workers risk their own safety to come to the aid of others on Pennsylvania roadways. This band of heroes includes people like: o EMS workers o Fire police o Firefighters o Police officers o PTC Maintenance Crews & PennDOT Workers o Tow truck operators o and others These men and women confront real danger each time they are called into action. While on scene, responders must perform difficult jobs while also thinking about serious dangers very close by. PA Highway Responders and Workers rely on your good judgment to help get them home safely at the end of the day. For their sake, please, slow down to not more than 20 mph below the posted speed limit and move over for responders and roadway workers. Thank you for your time, they NEED your support.

This Labor Day, we're reminding you to Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over. Impaired driving enforcement goes beyond checking for alcohol impairment. Law enforceme...nt also work to identify motorists impaired by illegal drugs and prescription medication, or some combination of these. Impairment is impairment. Always read your prescription drug labels and don’t drive if your medication instructs you not to. Even over Labor Day weekend, continue practicing social distancing and follow other COVID-19 guidance provided at health.pa.gov. #BeSafePA #DriveSober
