During this week of recognizing our DSPs (Direct Service Professionals), we couldn't be more pleased and proud to share the recognition that one of our staff, Olivia Young, received yesterday. Olivia was nominated for the work she did during the COVID-19 shutdown in 2020, and she received one of the top three 2021 MITC Direct Support Professional awards in the country! Our participants and staff watched the online presentation together to see Olivia receive her award. Congratulations, Olivia, for receiving this national recognition, and thank you to ALL of our DSPs for the work you do each day to support our program participants! #AbleServicesYork #APlaceWherePeopleGrow #2021MITCDSPAwards

This week is National DSP Recognition Week and we'd like to honor them for their caring and supportive work they do each day. Thank you, DSPs, for helping our participants and our program grow each and every day! #AbleServicesYork #APlaceWherePeopleGrow #NationalDSPWeek #ThankYouDSPs #DSPRecognition

We'd like to give a HUGE "Thank You!" to the teams from Wagman and Glatfelter Insurance Group, who made our garden fences look beautiful again! We're so thankful for their participation in the United Way of York County's Day of Action 2021. Yesterday, Ryan Bridge "The BugMan" came to educate us on a variety of insects. We also learned about their characteristics, origins, and the nature of these creatures. We learned that insects are not harmful; they want to survive for another day and to protect themselves from larger predators. We also met Penelope the tarantula, Kevin the scorpion, millipedes, a whiptail scorpion, and some very friendly hissing cockroaches. While some participants (and staff) were hesitant t...o get up and close with these buggy critters, it was amazing to see Ryan reassure us all and encourage our interaction with them. We all walked away with more knowledge, appreciation, and less fear of insects. Thank you for taking the time to educate us, Ryan, and helping us understand bugs better; your enthusiasm, passion, and knowledge really captured the hearts of everyone in our program. See more

THE GREAT WATERMELON EXPERIMENT! On Monday, we started adding rubber bands around a watermelon to see how many it would take to explode it. 455 rubber bands later, it STILL wouldn't break, and it sat in our courtyard overnight, unexploded. On Tuesday, we started again, and our two brave DSPs, Becca and Austin, kept adding more until they reached the magic number of 775! Scroll through the photos to see the impact results, as well as our viewing party (and a really cool rubber band ball that formed itself as it flew off the watermelon!). #AbleServicesYork #APlaceWherePeopleGrow

Our participants have been busy creating all kinds of Christmas decorations, including these ornaments that were sent to the PA State Capitol Building to help decorate their 2020 Holiday Tree. The tree will be located on the steps of the Capitol building this year, so be sure to look for our ornaments when you see it. Thank you to the PA Department of Aging for sponsoring this annual tradition!
