Dear Friends, We are devastated and enraged over the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and so many more. It is hard to wrap one's head around these senseless deaths and America's continued history of racism. Our emotions run the gamut from pain to sorrow to anger, and land at the undeniable need for change. It is nearly impossible to witness the events that have unfolded in recent weeks without remembering the Spring of 1968, when the assassination of Dr.... Martin Luther King unleashed protests in cities nationwide. It was in this context of civil unrest and a thirst for equity that Philadelphia Academies, Inc. was born. More than 50 years later, our country has fallen far short, and we are reminded in no uncertain terms that systemic barriers of racism and injustice still exist. It is heartbreaking. It is enraging. It is simply not acceptable. At PAI, we are listening to the voices of people of color so that we can do better. We add our voices to all those that are crying out for justice and lasting change, and we condemn racism in all its forms. We are committed to finding ways, in our work with schools and across our organization, to take real steps toward change. We don't have the answers, but we pledge to continue to listen, to continue to support young men and women of color, and to continue to be part of the solution. Philadelphia Academies, Inc.

We are excited to share that this Spring, PAI was the recipient of a PASmart Grant to support the expansion of our recently registered Early Childhood Education (ECE) pre-apprenticeship program at Parkway West High School! Due to the current shelter-in-place guidelines, we are cancelling this year's Interview Expo, our annual event where 11th graders participate in mock interviews with professionals. While disappointing, we look forward to seeing all of our students and industry volunteers at next year’s Interview Expo! However, we still need the support of our business community in a new project: Virtual Industry Tours. We are looking to host 1 virtual industry tour per week running through the month of May. If you or someone you know would like to host a virtual industry tour for our students, please message us or email [email protected]!
