A Dog's Tale From Jail 06.04.2021

Fred: 3 year old Irish greyhound: Fred is one of the dogs brought over from Ireland. He is a big, muscular hunk of a dog. While a bit shy the first week, he has really come into his own this past week, making friends with everyone with lots of smiles and wags. He is sweet as the day is long, though a bit slower to pick up on some things. We are giving him lots of time to just settle after his long journey and not rushing him. He is beginning to know his name, and starting to focus on his handler, and learning to lay down on command. He is quiet in his crate, and so far has been a pretty easy keeper. Turbo: 2.5 year old tuxedo greyhound. Turbo has really settled in this week, and is showing a bit more of his personality. Once he warms up to you, he enjoys his leaning and petting, and has started playing with toys a bit as well. He came in marking on everything...with diligence and management, his handlers have really curtailed the behavior, and he is learning what is appropriate and what is not. He is starting on his basics...has some nice handler focus, walking politely on lead, downs, and settling on his mat. He is quiet in his crate and goes in quite a bit by himself. Kelly: 3 year old fawn greyhound. Kelly has really settled in well at the prison and is a happy, social goof ball. He is 3, but is still pretty sure he is a puppy. He is all bounce and wags. He has started getting down to work, focusing on containing his enthusiasm with greeting people and keeping all four paws on the ground, working on his counter surfing, and starting some basics. He already has nice handler focus, is laying down and settling on his mat. Also, lots of crate games to get him a bit happier with his crate, but doing really well with it. The only thing Kelly hates is stairs. He will do them, but he is incredibly uncomfortable, and does them in his own "special" way. We will continue working with him on that as the days go on. Kelly has a forever home already lined up for him. We are thrilled!

2/20/20: Doozie 3 year old greyhound. This boy is ready to make his prison break! He is a wonderful worker that truly enjoys being engaged in his lessons with his handler, and is a quick study. His basics are rock solid...sits, lays down, walks politely on his easy walk harness, lovely handler focus, settles on his mat, waits at doorways, and comes happily when called. He also does some fun party tricks with extreme enthusiasm. Doozie has worked hard on crating happily. That being said, he will not do great if left crated for long periods of time. He likes his crate just fine when people are around, and will tolerate it for short periods of time (a few hours) but will not be happy in it for much more than that.
