How you brush makes a big difference. The mechanical act of brushing removes the very sticky dental plaque a mixture of bacteria, their acids and sticky byproducts and food remnants. It forms naturally on teeth immediately after you've eaten but doesn't get nasty and start to cause damage to the teeth until it reaches a certain stage of maturity. The exact amount of time this takes isn't known but is at least more than 12 hours. Bacteria consume sugar and, as a byproduct, p...roduces acids that dissolve minerals out of the teeth, leaving microscopic holes we can't see. If the process isn't stopped and they aren't repaired, these can become big, visible cavities. Taking two minutes to brush your teeth is a good target for removing plaque and you should brush at night and one other time daily. Brushing frequently stops the bacteria developing to a stage where the species which produce the most acid can become established. Electric toothbrushes can be more effective than manual brushing and a small toothbrush head helps to reach awkward areas in the mouth, while medium-textured bristles help you clean effectively without causing harm to gums and teeth. The main thing, however, is to get brushing! See more

Poor oral health can affect the brain. Substances that are released from gums inflamed by infection can actually kill brain cells and lead to memory loss. Dementia and possibly even Alzheimer's disease can result from gingivitis when the bacteria in the mouth spreads to the nerve channels or enters the bloodstream. #alzheimers #dementia #oralhealth #gingivitis #nervechannels

#toothpain #severepain #dontwait #extractions #rootcanals #myfamilydentalcare Why wait until it really hurts? The unbearable pain you have in your jaw area or significant tooth is a serious red flag warning that something is wrong!... There’s a good chance that if you go to bed with tooth pain, it’s going to be there in the morning. Even if it is a minor pain, it’s not going to stay ‘minor’ for long! Tooth pain is usually an indication of an existing tooth or mouth problem. The longer the underlying problem persists, the worse it will become. The worse it becomes, the worse the pain becomes! If you feel pain in a specific tooth, you may have a cavity. Temperature sensitivity could be a sign of a cavity or a more serious problem involving the nerve. It’s also possible that an infection in your gums is the source of your pain. No matter what pain you have, the only way to relieve it is by treating its source. That’s just as true for toothaches as it is for everything else. Scheduling an dental appointment is the best way to get lasting relief fast.
