My neighbor always has a smile on his face. His son just started two-a-days. Dad is nervous. He doesn’t want his son to get a concussion. Dad suffered a TBI on the job 17 years ago. It took him 3 years to recover. Even though he’s recovered, he knows he’s not the same person. He has chronic insomnia. He wears prescription sunglasses. Bright lights trigger terrible headaches. He lives his life as safe as he can. He’s in constant fear of a reactivation crash or fall. Everything he does is a struggle. Yet he keeps a smile on his face. In this age of pocket super computers, there are no navigation apps that can show you how far along the path you are. You just have to follow the rules of the road, put one foot in front of the other and breathe. Most importantly you must remember to enjoy the journey as much as the destination. On the Crater Lake hike, the Aspen forest, scree scramble and crystal clear Maroon Creek were just as enjoyable as the mirror lake and waterfalls at the foot of the Maroon Bells. #youcanifyouwill
