It is with a heavy heart that I share the sad news of the passing of Al Ross. Generous of spirit, kind of heart, and yet a determined competitor, Al will be missed by all. Al touched the lives of so many New England paddlers - always there with a helping hand, a warm smile, and an encouraging word. Many of our newer paddlers may not have had the great good fortune of knowing Al, as he was not able to paddle much in recent years while he courageously faced his health... challenges. Yet he would still come out to support and cheer on the paddlers when he could, and he was especially proud of his daughter, Emma. Al loved the sport of canoe racing, and he was a devoted supporter of all paddlers. Al would always go out of his way to help and encourage folks new to paddling. Although Al was not large in a physical sense, he was large in heart, large in passion, large in kindness and generosity. He truly cared for others. Al selflessly shared with all his knowledge and enthusiasm - for paddling and for life. He will be missed. Our thoughts, prayers, and condolences go to Emma and all of Al's family. Peter Heed
