In 2012, people from the ages of 18 to 25 had the highest rate of alcohol dependence or abuse (14.3 percent) among people ages 12 or older. Additionally, 6.8 percent of those 12 or older (an estimated 17.7 million individuals) were dependent on or abused alcohol within the year.
