On behalf of the White Boxer Study Chair: In 2019, under then ABC president Salli Moore-Kottas, the White Boxer Study committee was formed. Shortly after their first meeting the chair asked to step down from the committee due to other obligations. New ABC president, Linda Abel, appointed Pat Healy as the chair. The committee has met several times via teleconference and ZOOM meeting. The first approach taken by the committee was to conduct a survey of ABC members, members... of ABC member clubs and non-members. See the high-level results of the survey in separate power point presentation. The committee had several discussions on the survey results, and they were presented to the ABC Board of Directors at the 2020 Regional. It was determined by the committee an extended breeding study would be in violation of our COE and financially very expensive. We picked the area of most concern from the study which would be, if a hearing issue would be introduced into our colored dogs by allowing white boxers to be breed. The committee has worked very hard to put together a BEAR clinic at our 2021 National. This clinic is being sponsored by the White Boxer Study but funded by the ABCF. There will be no cost for the testing. From this we hope to have enough data to provide a plan forward to present to the Board. I know you would like to have this move faster but this is a very difficult subject to address. Below is the information we have right now on the BEAR Screening from Joyce Campbell. BAER Screening The Ad Hoc Committee has been in touch with Dr. Peter Scheifile at the University of Cincinnati. He has a long list of credentials which are readily available on their website. Dr. Scheifile and his team will arrive on Friday, May 7 and be there through Sunday May 9. We propose the following priorities: 1) Colored dogs from a white parent. 2) Colored dogs with a deaf white littermate. 3) Colored with a white littermate. 4) Both colored and white 5) A dog or bitch that has produced a deaf puppy We admit these priorities seem strange but there are reports that some of our colored dogs are either deaf or have hearing deficits that have been undetected to date. This is information we need to know to move forward with the question about breeding our white boxers. At this time we are still in the process of determining the sign up for the clinic. There will be no charge to the owner for this test. It is being entirely funded by the ABCF, using your research dollars. In this week of disappointing news, the cancellation of our ABC National and our Top 20 celebration, I thought I should share some good, I might even say, delightful news about two of our special Boxer people. It is people like this that make us able to do what we do best, provide for research into the conditions and diseases of our beloved Boxers. Here's the little story: Dawn Heath, just this week lost her boy, Bauer, after a yearlong fight with lymphoma. Bauer had won... a $50 Amazon gift card for his participation in the Virtual Olympic Scentatholon. The gift was in honor of "an Extraordinary Smushy Faced Breed" during the competition of over 600 dogs. Christie Machorek who was to send the award reached out to Dawn and asked about sending the Amazon gift card. Instead, Dawn asked her if she would consider donating it to ABCF, on Bauer's behalf, as well as her boxer, Lily, who Christine lost to cancer a few years ago and was also an amazing Super Sniffer....." proving Boxers can be more than just a pretty face and those noses work just as well, if not better than other breeds!" - Dawn's words. Christine was so happy to support the cause that she decided to increase the donation from $50 to $100. And, Dawn told her she would match it, in honor of two amazing "nose-work" Boxers. Dawn and Christine said they hope that their little contribution in honor of both their special Boxers helps to continue all the amazing research ABCF does for not only our Boxers but every dog out there! Two special ladies supporting a very special cause. Our Boxers send their love and remember no contribution is ever too small.

From Facebook Birthday Gift Wishes to forgoing return of your Auction Dinner tickets, to sharing your ABC catalog ad monies, your efforts have been heart-warming and impressive. During this time of turmoil, anxiety, and stress every donation is special and makes a tremendous impact on our work.... As you all know, with the cancellation of the American Boxer Club National Specialty our one major, yearly fundraiser, the auction, did not occur. Additionally, without the National Specialty there was no Top 20. Which also meant no annual donations from either the ABC or the Top 20.
