AMR wants to remind everyone to be safe during the wildfire season. Wildfires often begin unnoticed and can spread quickly igniting brush, trees and homes. It's... important to have an evacuation plan in place and know what to bring with you. Remember the five Ps of immediate evacuation. #AMRSafetyTips See more

A Message from Dr. Ed Racht, GMR Chief Medical Officer, and Tom Baldwin, GMR VP Safety As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we realize the sacrifices being made... by our employees. We understand that you are fatigued, but we must keep our foot on the gas. In our environment, the use of masks is the single best intervention to prevent the transmission of the COVID-19 virus. Please use: Procedure masks or cloth masks anytime physical distancing cannot be maintained (cloth mask are not used in the patient setting) Procedural masks for all patient contacts at a minimum with upgrade to an N-95 or greater for aerosolizing procedures It is acceptable for each of us to remind others of the importance of wearing a mask (be your brother’s keeper)! Remember: In order for the mask to offer you and those around you protection it must be worn correctly. It will not protect you if it is hanging off your ear or pulled down. The inconvenience of wearing a mask is far better than the devastation that accompanies an infection. You would not knowingly walk across a busy roadway without looking first (the risk of not wearing a mask is the same), so don’t let your mask down!

Ismael Esparza is being honored as a Star of Life for putting his own life at risk while off duty and pulling a victim from a burning car on the side of a mount...ain. Late one October evening, driving down a mountain road he saw that a car had gone off the road, flipped down the embankment on its roof, and burst into flames. He could hear screaming. Ismael called 911 then jumped into action. He made his way 200 feet down the mountainside and tried to pry the car doors opento no avail. Knowing time was short, Ismael instead broke a window with his bare hand sustaining lacerations. The fire burned his clothes and skin, yet still he pulled one of the occupants out of the car. Conscious, the victim said there was someone else in the vehicle. Ismael called out. But no reply came. The flames engulfed the car and Ismael’s only recourse was to ensure the safety of the passenger he had freed. He carried him back up to the road and waiting EMS, a bittersweet save. Ismael has been in EMS for 12 years and began working for AMR in 2012. He has been a volunteer firefighter, an EMT and now is a Paramedic for AMR Desert Cities. He is active in the community, collecting toys, blankets and clothing for the local homeless shelter. Read about all our Stars of Life winners at gmr.net/StarsofLife
