Fall Pest Control Tips - Mice Earlier this week, we talked about sealing possible entryways for pests. Doing this helps immensely with keeping mice out of your residence or business. Another tip to keep them out includes clearing brush around your buildings. Mice love to hide in leaves, shrubs, and other vegetation. Keep bird feeders at a distance from your home, and make sure garbage/trash is sealed tightly. Inside your home, have pantries and food areas organized and clean. Store food in sealed, air-tight containers. Remember...mice only need a 1/4 inch to infest.

Just a reminder - this is optimum time for Fall Pest Prevention. Utilize a couple of hours to search for any possible entrances that pests may use to get into your home, outbuildings, or business. Use the daylight time to see any light that is coming through cracks and crevices or other openings. Weather stripping, caulking, and removing moisture from certain areas of your home can keep it pest free. We'll have some more tips throughout the next few moths to help you get prepared!

Don’t let ticks bug you this spring! If you’ve never had an encounter, ticks are parasitic arthropods that feed on nutrients in the blood of animals, including... humans. Ticks hang out on top of tall grass, brushes, and sedges in hopes of catching a ride on their next meal. Because ticks can transmit a bunch of nasty diseases, like Lyme’s disease, it’s important to take steps to avoid ticks. When outside, especially in tall grass or wooded areas, wear bug repellent to help discourage ticks from latching onto you. Wearing long sleeves and pants can make it more difficult for ticks to get to your skin. We know tucking your pants into your socks might look a bit weird, but it is one more way to help prevent ticks from coming in contact with your skin! Check yourself for ticks frequently when outside and once when you get back to your house. If you do happen to find a tick, and it is attached, remove it as soon as possible with a tick puller or tweezers. On average, a tick must be embedded for 24 hours to transmit Lyme’s disease, however, improperly removing a tick by pulling it with your fingers, burning it off, or drowning it with honey can cause the tick to regurgitate its contents back into your blood and can transmit disease. You can learn more about Lyme Disease and tick prevention on the Game Commission website https://bit.ly/3bNM0m1.

This warm weather in early Fall is beautiful, and the stinging insects love it, as they are preparing their queen for the Winter. Wasps, hornets, and bees are at their largest size in population during this time of year. Continue to use extra precaution while participating in outdoor activities, and if you get stung, be sure to care for the site properly and/or seek necessary medical treatment.
