Yesterday I shared a video with tips on how to implement one of my specialties: mixing design styles. Today I'm showing you those tips in action with one one of my current projects. My client lives in southern California. She loves coastal style and all that it entails but her husband is mad ...for modern and contemporary. I created a cohesive living room design that jibes with both their styles by using these tips: 1 Keep it in the same color family: The overall palette mixes warm neutrals with pops of blue. 2 Keep the main furniture in one style and bring in other genres with art and accessories: The main furniture all has a weathered coastal feel and the contemporary touches come out in the rug and artwork. 3 Match up the silhouettes: You can see the clean lines running throughout the space so even if the materials have a more coastal spin it still feels contemporary. 4 Find the connection points-points of overlap between the styles: For this room it's the confident use of color. Back on that Bohemian Contemporary (#BoCo) kick! My client loved her blue and rust bedroom so much she decided to carry the color palette into her recently renovated dining room. Here is the latest mock up of her design . I added a rich deep blue to the wall to add some drama and make everything pop.
