The corona virus is making waves across the news and everyone has heard about the new deadly virus. There is no need to panic, however. The virus much like th...e flu, is dangerous to those with a weakened immune system and people with prior respiratory conditions. The odds of you getting seriously sick are quite low. Times like these, however, are a great reminder to do the things we should ALREADY be doing to prevent us from getting sick. First, it’s time to roll up those sleeves and wash your hands as well as forearms. Don’t take unnecessary chances, do your best to avoid touching your face. Especially if you hand washed your hands and forearms in a while. Wipe down surfaces that get lots of traction with a Lysol or Kleenex (assuming you can find any). Avoid crowded places. If you’re not a doomsday conspiracy theorist you will still have to interact with people, who may or may not be infected and or careful. Your best defense in most cases is a strong immune system. Read on for a few methods to boost your immune system like a boss. 1. Tip number one is Chinese Mushrooms. These fungi will help make sure you can still have fun with this virus going around. Reishi mushrooms can be consumed whole and are great for your health. They are quite bitter though and not that versatile when cooking so an extract or capsule would be the best way to consume it. Reishi mushrooms are great for the kidneys which help regulate your immune system. Latest scientific research confirms that proper kidney function is responsible for the regulation of your immune response. This research in a nutshell suggests that all the organs in your body are in constant communication. Organs communicate through hundreds of signaling molecules carried by the blood throughout the body. The kidneys are the managers and proper function of the kidneys is crucial for letting your bones know to produce more immune cells. Reishi mushrooms are fantastic in this regard. 2. The second mushroom to consider is cordyceps. Cordyceps like reishi is good for kidney function and that’s important, however it also helps regulate other immune factors. Cordyceps acts quite well as a stimulant to provide much needed energy that you will appreciate during cold spells. Cordyceps is best at bringing balance to the immune system. Making sure that your body is prioritizing resources on threats to the body and not targeting healthy tissue. Cordyceps and reishi are available in pill and powder form at your local health goods store. 3. Once the Kidneys are taken care off you want to make sure the stomach chi is balanced. When you get sick it usually means there’s some sort of stagnation. To clear it make sure you include at least some spicy foods into your diet. Ginger has a ton of benefits and can be added to food, soups or even tea. Its widely available and very versatile so it’s a must. Red peeper is also great at clearing stagnation. Notice that you’ve never had a stuffed nose when eating spicy foods. Hot foods increase circulation in your body and expel liquids and mucus all thing you want to avoid with a virus around. 4. Finally, you need to protect your lungs. The lungs are the last affected organ by the corona virus but they’re also the last line of defense. To help improve your lung function take Echinacea and Eucalyptus supplements. These are available at your health foods stores or online. Ideally you should be taking these periodically anyway to maintain your health. But since you only hear about this during a pandemic, I hope that you take these suggestions seriously. Manage Your Health In The Cold Weather With the onset of colder weather, colds are becoming prevalent, and the number of people complaining of joint pain increa...ses dramatically. Are these patterns caused by the cold weather, or common human incompetence? That's what we're going to talk about today! Read on and you'll learn how with just two methods from Chinese medicine, you can at home, to prevent with severe pain the likelihood of colds and inflammation of the joints naturally and without the use of antibiotics! It gets cold, you wrap yourself in warm clothes, but to no avail - the cold grips you in its strong arms, your joints swell (often on the hands). If you feel the onset of a cold or your joints begin to swell, you need to consume more hot food, preferably in the form of soups with the addition of ginger root, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, mustard, and garlic; these foods have a profound warming effect on the body. Teas with ginger, lemon and honey are also welcome. 2. Put a warming dry compresses or heating pad on the abdominal area. Headaches are by far the most common health problem. However, they don’t have to be. Very often headaches, especially of the chronic type, can be resolved by si...mple means. If your headache came on suddenly and has a sharp stabbing pain, please don’t try these tips and go to the emergency room right away as this can signify a more serious condition. If your pain is not of the aforementioned type these tips will help you deal with the annoying pains. Before you can fix your headaches, you need to know what causes them. The number one reason is hunger. Most of the time your head aches because you haven’t given yourself enough sustenance. Your blood sugar drops and your body releases chemical substances which cause the headache. Your brain is the most resource intensive organ in your body and when it doesn’t get what it needs you feel it. Sugars and carbs will not do you much good here, in fact, they can make it worse. What you need is something that’s rich in protein. Make sure to drink some water to stay hydrated as well. Dehydration is just as likely to cause your headache as your hunger. If the hunger wasn’t the issue, you might just as easily be too tired. Even early in the day your headaches might be caused by this. Ladies, I suggest you take a quick nap or at least lie down for no more than 30 min. More than 30 minutes will make you drowsy when you wake up. Women recover best while lying down. According to Eastern Medicine women recuperate their energetic reserve best in a lying down position. Men, from an eastern perspective, recover best in upright motion. A walk to get some fresh air will do wonders. These methods are guidelines for men and women and are not exclusive. Try to experiment with them to see what works best for you. If you are still having difficulty, here’s a method you can use at home. Often headaches are a byproduct of a raised blood pressure and all the blood flows to the head. At the same time, you may find that your toes and fingers are colder than the rest of your body. This is a tell-tale sign of an imbalance. In Chinese Medicine what’s above is connected to what’s below. Therefore, many the acupuncture points to deal with the problems related to the head are located on and along your feet. To deal with an imbalance in the head soak your feet up to the middle of your shins in warm water. As warm as you can tolerate. Fifteen minutes or so will help the blood pressure stabilize and provide some much-deserved respite. These are the most common troubles. Rituals for the Winter Solar Solstice Well, tonight is one of the magic nights of the year. The WINTER SOLAR SOLSTICE. This night is often called the "Midnigh...t of the Year". Tonight, represents the transition between life’s two main cycles. This is a critical time period: 3 days before and 3 days today, the Earth receives a huge FLOW of creative energy. This time period, more than any other time of the year, allows you to change course for your destiny. To help us create the New in our lives, like the sun cycle begins anew, the whole Universe seems to freeze for three days. Our ancestors knew the power of these days and consciously utilized it. We each have a choice. Let another opportunity and year go by with unrealized potential, or you can use this time to begin changing your life for the better. I recommend you take charge of your life and apply maximum effort, to take advantage of the astronomical end of the year. Take today to preform two simple rituals: TAKE STOCK Slowly roll back the tape of everything that happened this past year, remembering each month. What important things have you learned? What new paradigms did you discover? What's new in your life? What trials did you successfully get past? And if you have not moved past them yet what have you learned from those mistakes? Thank this year for all it has given you. Thank Yourself for having consciously lived it, for all the efforts that you had to make. Thank all the people who were in your life last year and helped you have this experience (even if it was painful). MAKE TWO LISTS In the first list write down all those things that did not suit you in the past year. Those which you want to get rid of. They may be your own negative habits, relationships that have become a burden, lack of money, etc. This list is Ideally should be set AFLAME In the second list, write about what you would like from the new year. You can do this on a separate sheet or in your diary, which you plan to use next year. Hide this list from prying eyes and keep it throughout the year. Exactly a year later, when you look back at the list you will be surprised at how much of what you wanted has come to pass. This is a time of great opportunity. Use the following three days for the after solstice in order to plant your dreams for the next year.
