January is human trafficking awareness month. Human trafficking is modern day slavery. In 2019 there were 22,326 victims of human trafficking identified in the US. (This is severely underreported). 14, 597 were sex trafficking victims. 4,384 traffickers were identified in the US. 1,912 suspicious businesses were identified. Sex trafficking is happening all over the US. It doesn’t matter the income level or the type of community. Victims of trafficking are both male and female... and involve both children and adults. Traffickers are both male and female and often involve someone who is not a stranger to the victim.
