Cleaning your gutters in the fall is an important and necessary task to help protect your home. Failing to clean your gutters can cause water to back up into the roof, causing damage to the ceiling and walls. When cleaning your gutters, take precautions and follow these safety tips: Choose a sturdy ladder with shelving to hold a bucket to collect debris. Tell someone to spot you on the ladder to reduce the risk of injury. Set your ladder on dry, firm ground. Never climb... onto the top two rungs of a ladder. Wear protective gear, including eye protection, gloves, mask, and boots with grip. Wear a tool belt to carry tools; this keeps your hands free to hold the ladder and prevents you from stretching to reach for the tools. Watch out for power lines and do not attempt to clean gutters under wet conditions. Before you climb to clean your gutters, make sure you feel safe. If you don’t, hire a professional and get help.
