USDA Forest Service 2021 ATV/OHM permits now available Warren, PA (February 1, 2021) The Allegheny National Forest all-terrain vehicle and off-highway motorcy...cle (ATV/OHM) permits are now available. Permits are valid through the end of the calendar year. The 2021 ATV/OHM permit cost, mail-in forms, vendors and directions for electronic submissions can be found on the Forest website: https://www.fs.usda.gov//alleghe/passes-permits/recreation. Forest Service staff will continue to monitor ATV/OHM trail conditions. We are hopeful that incoming weather conditions may allow us to open some trails for winter riding, noted Ranger Rob Fallon. He said winter use of the ATV/OHM trail system requires sustained cold temperatures that freeze the trail surface and push frost into the ground. Until these conditions are met, trails will remain closed to ATV/OHM use. The Forest will send out a news release and post information on the public website and Facebook when ATV/OHM trail access changes. Please check access conditions prior to use. Forest visitors are requested to practice outdoor ethics such as Leave No Trace principles and Tread Lightly. The Allegheny National Forest ATV Trails remain closed for winter riding as of January 30, 2021. A mid-week thaw softened the trail tread. The weather forecast ...shows sub-freezing temps through the upcoming mid-week. The ANF will evaluate trails later in the week to determine if any of the trail system can be opened. A new report will be issued on Friday, February 5. ATV Trail Permits for 2021 have been distributed. The Allegheny National Forest will post a news release on Monday, February 1 with locations and on line instructions for purchasing permits.

Your ATV Traction membership is due to expire March 31, 2021. Emails with this year's form were sent to those who provided valid emails. Please legibly complete, sign and send back the form with your payment, copies of your current insurance and registrations and any DCNR Safety Certificates for your children if they operate their own machines.

DCNR Youth ATV Safety Class sign ups for ages 8 thru 15 years. ATV Traction, Inc. is now scheduling youth classes at various locations for 2021! To pre-register and for more information please email your name, the child's name, child’s age, your location and your contact information to [email protected]. ... Students must have appropriately sized machines, long pants, long sleeves, gloves, DOT approved helmets, goggles and boots that go over ankles. Please make sure that all clothing fits the child including the helmet. If raining, please bring rain gear. Temp cards are given after class and DCNR will mail the cards to your home. Parent or legal guardian must remain on site for the duration of the training class. Classes are approximately 3 hours long. All machines used in class must be registered and insured. Proof of both must be provided. ATV safety training is MANDATORY for Pennsylvania's youth, ages 8 thru 15 years of age. This means that your children CAN NOT leave your property on an ATV unless he or she has been properly trained by a certified DCNR ATV Safety Instructor.

As of Mid-August 2020, approximately 2000 ATV trail permits have been sold on the Allegheny National Forest. Proceeds from ATV permits have been used for annual... maintenance of trail systems. Approximately $70,000 has been spent on heavy trail maintenance contracts on the Timberline ATV trail, D-Loop Section this year. Below are some before and after photos of the work that was completed:

I was contacted by someone today regarding some riding in an area where it’s not permitted. This person happens to be a hunter, who has trail cameras everywher...e in the area on the outskirts of Sheffield. He has clear pictures of 4 SXS on a mix of private and some ANF land, riding and breaking new trails. That person has not decided what he is going to do yet but is considering turning the plates over to Forest Service and PGC Out of respect to me and the riding community he contacted me to see if I May know who it is. I DO NOT Not saying It’s anyone from our group but just wanted to make it Clear that RIDE ANF does not encourage illegal riding. We have to much good happening, and hopefully some very exciting news coming soon, to have illegal riding ruin our reputation. If you happen to know someone who may have been doing this.
