A PRAYER FOR LEAP DAY Lord, it only comes once every four years, This surprise of a day--- Twenty-four hours, One thousand, four hundred... and forty minutes. Shall I think of this As an unexpected bonus An unexpected holiday An unexpected invitation to insolence? Or Shall I think of it as a rare gift that requires special handling? Yes. That's it. I'll give these hours, these minutes, to You With an unexpected visit, An unexpected donation, An unexpected prayer of gratitude For all the days You lavish upon me. See more

When reading my devotions this morning God spoke something to me that I really needed to hear today. I pray that it will speak to others also. Read Psalm 55 Cast your burden on the Lord and He shall sustain thee. Psalm 55:22 There is this story told of a poor man in Ireland who was plodding along toward home, carrying a huge bag of potatoes. A horse and wagon finally drew up along...side him on the road, and the driver invited the man to climb aboard. After getting on the wagon, he sat down but continued to hold the heavy bag. When the driver suggested that the man set the bag down in the wagon, he replied, "I don't want to trouble you too much, sir. You are giving me a ride already, so I'll just carry the potatoes." We may hear this story and say, "How foolish of him." And yet don't we sometimes do the same thing with our burdens? We say, " We give this burden to you Lord" but we are unwilling to really put them into His hands. We somehow feel as if the Lord can't truly handle them on His own. "How foolish of us." It is no wonder we become so weary and filled with anxiety. In the first 15 verses of Psalm 55, David speaks of his anxiety because his enemies were attacking him. But in verses 16-23, he gives his worries and fears to the Lord and is filled with renewed hope and confidence. That is why he could write, "Cast your burden on the Lord and He shall sustain thee." This means that the Lord will not only carry our burden but He will carry us also. What a wonderful promise!! When we think about the man and his bag of potatoes, may we remember the lesson it illustrates: Rather than holding on to our burdens and carrying them alone, let's set them down in God's Hands. God invites us to burden Him with what burdens us.
