The Autism Center at Misericordia, Autism for Lifelong Learning - ALL Program at Misericordia University, and The Best Buddies at Misericordia all participated in passing out candy for Autism Awareness- NEPA’s Trunk or Treat Event this month. We were all proud to be a part of another successful event and can’t wait to represent again next year.
Art classes are back! Thanks to S.A.F.E., the Autism Center at Misericordia University will once again be holding weekly Art classes. Please use the Sign-Up Genius to guarantee your spot.

Therapeutic Tabletop Role Playing Group is a therapeutic group that uses tabletop role playing games to help treat behavioral and mental health issues. A two therapist team facilitates the creation of a world with a plotline and story that the clients explore through the vestige of t...heir characters. Through interaction with other members of the group and the collaborative story, players can be exposed to a wide variety of situations that aid in exposure to, creation and rehearsal of strategies to manage situations. The narrative can be constructed in such as way as to allow the player to explore these ideas and situations within a safe therapeutic space. In essence, the character identity gives some amount of protection to the player in the case of emotionally sensitive or troubling material. The rules provide a steady source of comfort also as the world that the client is playing in has boundaries. This allows the situations to have limited range of consequences to allow the player to be able to feel safe again exploring their sensitive material. It is play with purpose and direction. See more
