FROM MEAGER BEGINNINGS Twenty seven years ago Dan Rump and I started Auto Buyers' Consultants. From meager beginnings we both ventured out to start a company that would help car buyers level the playing field at local car dealerships. We both started out with $2500 as seed money. My good friend and attorney Rick Taylor got us incorporated at Kirkpatrick and Lockhart (KLGATES) which, at the time in hind sight, was one of the best moves for us. Rick wrote a nice article and p...ublished it to all the employees at the firm. We immediately got some of our first clients of which most still use us today. We decided to make a leaflet and stand outside the Pittsburgh International car show. With a bit of luck someone from the Post Gazette saw our leaflet and decided to call us for an interview. Little did we know they would publish it on the front page of the Wheels car section of the paper. We got at least 30 or 40 clients from the article. Two of my sports heros Bob Friend and Paul Martha both used my company.In 1996 Dan and I parted ways and I want to thank him for helping to put us on solid ground. After thousands of clients I’m happy to tell everyone that we are stronger today because of our many client relationships that have made Auto Buyers' Consultants what it is today. Why is it so difficult to buy used cars in Pittsburgh? Is it the lack of competition because of the one price dealers? Those dealer prices can be high and the quality can be lacking. By using an auto consultant with 25 years in the auto buyers business we can look through all the tricks of the trade to get you a great deal on a used car without the hassle. The following are things I look for before I recommend a used car: Overall Condition of the Car. A car that is well cared... for is obvious to me. I have seen thousands of used cars and can make sure it doesn't have hidden problems i.e., mechanical and cosmetic; Accident History. Has the vehicle ever been involved in an accident? What was the nature of the accident? Where was the repair done? Was there significant damage? We don't recommend any used cars that have been involved in an accident. We keep you away from these cars; Maintenance Record. Did the previous owner maintain the maintenance schedule? I can check the dealership records and CarFax; and I test drive all cars, check for engine run, how well the gearbox changes gears, steering vibrations, brakes shuddering, tire wear and balancing. Does the car have new State and emission inspection stickers? These are just a few of the things that I check before recommending a pre-owned car to make sure it lives up to my standards. You will be assured a great car for your family.

The New York International Car Show Where the Auto Industry Gathers to Unveil the Future On March 28, 29, 2018 I will be attending the New York Auto Show. What makes this show so different from the local... Pittsburgh Auto Show is that the New York Auto Show is like Pittsburgh’s show on steroids. There will be over 1,000 cars to look at and all of the auto executives for all manufacturers will be on hand to show off the new models for 2019. I was invited by my client group Czarnowski. John Pugh, Director and General Manager of the Pittsburgh office, offered me a press pass and I am honored to represent all of you at the big show. Czarnowski is an exhibit and event marketing company based out of Chicago. The Pittsburgh office is all about auto shows, and as John’s guest, I will be able to roam freely and not only see all the new cars but listen to all of the top executives from BMW to GM. I plan on taking many photos and videos. I am going to do a Facebook live video and maybe some interviews about the new technologies. Are driverless cars really on the horizon? Is Tesla going to be able to produce an affordable electric car for the masses? Going to this New York show will make me feel like a kid in a candy store.
