Dear Parents and Guardians, Avella Area School District was contacted this week by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to discuss the growing number of positive Covid-19 cases in Washington County. The Department of Health has moved our county into the Substantial range. DOH and PDE are recommending our district move to an all remote or online learning model. This option was discussed at our Regular Board meeting last evening and the decision was made to move to fully... remote learning from December 1st through December 11th , 2020. We will continue to monitor local positive cases from our townships and municipalities. If it is determined that the cases are on the decline, we will resume face-to-face instruction on December 14th. If the local number of positive cases continue to increase, we may extend the length of time we remain in the fully remote or online learning model. Our teachers will be ensuring students can log-on and that student usernames and passwords are active in either the Compass, grades K-4 or Edgenuity, grades 5-12 platforms next week. There will also be information posted on our District website tomorrow morning regarding online remote learning under the District News section. Our teachers will also be available for student assistance and questions. We will place a calendar of teacher availability for this assistance on our District website under District News. All Western Area Vocational students will also be learning remotely through their shop programs. Any questions about your students shop coursework, please contact Western Area. Currently, all scheduled Jr. Varsity and Varsity sports will continue as scheduled with safety protocols in place. Breakfast and lunch pick-up will be available for all district students during the period of remote learning. Additional information will follow. We thank you all for your assistance and support as we navigate through this school year. Avella Area School District is closed on Monday, October 12, 2020. Western Area Students: WACTC is in session on Monday, October 12th. Students riding the bus to Western Area should arrive at the west end of the high school no later than 11:25 am. The bus will return for student pick up at approximately 2:30 pm. All parents/guardians are responsible for transportation to and from Avella High School.
