Funeral Services for Davis Pop-Pop Howell All are invited to Davis' graveside service at 11:00 on Saturday morning, March 20, 2021, at the New London Presbyterian Cemetery, 1986 Newark Road, Lincoln University, PA 19352. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Avondale Hometown Heroes Wall Fund, 110 Pomeroy Avenue, P.O. Box 247, Avondale, PA 19311 or to the Avondale Fire Company, 23 Firehouse Way, Avondale, PA 19311. All CDC guidelines will be followed during the service. Fire company apparatus are welcome to participate in Davis' funeral procession and service. The procession will depart from the Avondale Fire Company at 10:00 and travel to the burial site at the New London Presbyterian Cemetery for the graveside service. We ask that your apparatus be at the Avondale Fire Company no later than 9:15 for line up. At the request of the family, companies are asked to wear Class B uniforms. At 7:10 pm on Monday, March 15th, the Avondale Fire Company was dispatched to assist Kennett Fire Company No. 1 with a garage fire on Nine Gates Roads in Kennett Township. Kennett's Chief 24 arrived to find a fully involved two-story detached garage. With the lack of hydrants in the area, Chief 24 requested the first alarm tanker task force. Longwood Fire Company's Engine 25-2 arrived and laid a water supply line up the driveway. Kennett's Engine 24 arrived and picked up Engi...ne 25-2's supply line and supplied water from the road to the scene. Avondale's Engine 23-1 arrived as the fourth due engine. The crew from Engine 23-1 was assigned to the roof of the Charlie side to open it for ventilation. Avondale's Engine 23-2 arrived and assisted with fire suppression. Avondale's Tanker 23 also responded and assisted with the water supply by hauling water from a hydrant to the fire scene. The fire was placed under control and Avondale crews assisted in overhaul and clean up. Crews cleared the scene around 10:30 pm. Special thanks to Christiana Fire Company - Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Tanker 52 for standing by at Avondale.

At 10:46 am on Sunday, March 14th, the Avondale Fire Company was dispatched to the 1600 block of Newark Road in West Marlborough Township for a reported outbuilding on fire. Also dispatched were Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company, Kennett Fire Company No. 1, and Longwood Fire Company, as well as Cochranville Fire Company for RIT. Deputy 23 responded on dispatch from his residence three miles away and was able to see a heavy smoke column in the air. Because there were no hydrants in the ...area, he requested the first alarm tanker task force which added Hockessin Fire Company - Station 19 and Union Fire Company No. 1 ~ Oxford, PA to the incident. Deputy 23 arrived to find fire showing from two buildings with extension into a wooded area and box trailers on the property. Deputy 23 established the Avondale Command and requested West Grove Fire Company's Engine 22-1 to establish a water fill site at Bowling Green Inn on Newark Road. Avondale's Engine 23-1 arrived as the first due engine and laid a water supply line from the end of the driveway of the property at Newark Road. Engine 23-1 went into service with two 1-3/4" hand-lines. Avondale's Tanker 23 arrived and set up a port-a-tank for water supply operations. Kennett Fire Company's Tower 24 arrived and went into service with the ladder pipe. West Grove's Engine 22-3, second engine (acting Avondale Engine 23-2) supplied water to Tower 24. Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company's Engine 36 arrived and laid a water supply line down Spencer Road from Newark Road. Engine 36 deployed hand-lines through the field and assisted with fire suppression. Longwood Fire Company's Engine 25-2 was assigned to the water supply sector and supplied water from the port-a-tank to the scene. The fire jumped across Newark Road which caused spot fires in the fields and hay bales. Brush units were added to protect the properties in the area from the hot embers. With the fire spreading into the fields, Command requested the second alarm assignment. After an extensive amount of fire attack and over-haul, the fire was put under control. After crews were back in-service, the Company was dispatched for a brush fire along Route 41 at Sharp Road. Deputy 23 arrived to find a working field fire extending into the woods. Engine 23-1 arrived along with Brush 36 (from Station 23) and put two booster lines in service. The fire was quickly knocked down and placed under control. Also assisting on scene were Concordville Fire & Protective Association, Good Will Fire Company #2 of West Chester, Keystone Valley Fire Department, Wagontown Fire Company, West Bradford Fire Co., Westwood Fire Company, and Medic 94 - Southern Chester County EMS.

Avondale Fire Company 23.02.2021

On Saturday, February 27th, the Avondale Fire Company was dispatched for mutual aid to assist West Grove Fire Company on a house fire on Ledum Run Road in Penn Township. Avondale's Engine 23-1 immediately responded with a crew of six. West Grove's Chief arrived on location to find smoke showing from the roof. West Grove's Rescue was the first engine to arrive and laid a supply line from a nearby hydrant. Engine 23-1 arrived and secured Rescue 22's hydrant to boost the pressure and sent the crew to the manpower pool. The crew from Engine 23-1 was tasked with checking the attic for fire extension, however, no extension was found. Avondale's crew assisted with wrapping up hose lines before being released by Command.

Avondale Fire Company 17.02.2021

On Saturday, February 27th, the Avondale Fire Company was dispatched for a building fire in the 200 block of Thompson Road in New Garden Township. Kennett, Hockessin, Longwood, and Po-Mar-Lin Fire Companies were also alerted as well as West Grove Fire Company for RIT. Avondale's Engine 23-1 was the first unit to respond and received reports of a freezer on fire inside the building. Kennett's Chief arrived to find a one-story market with nothing showing. Engine 23-1 arrived an...d dropped a water supply line at the corner of Thompson Road and West Cypress Street. The crew from Engine 23-1 investigated upon arrival and determined that the fire was out. Firefighters removed the freezer from the building. Deputy 23 had Command and the situation was placed under control within 10 minutes of dispatch. Thanks to Ed "Scoop" Dougherty for the photo.

Avondale Fire Company 01.01.2021

At 5:48pm on Saturday, January 9th, Avondale Fire Company was dispatched for a reported building fire at the Bowling Green Inn. Also dispatched for the incident were Kennett, Po-Mar-Lin, West Grove, Hockessin, and Cochranville Fire Companies. It was reported to inbound crews that a cigarette had caused an exterior wall to ignite. Deputy 23 arrived at 5:51pm and reported that the fire was out, however a smoke condition remained inside. The assignment was reduced to Avondale units. The crew from Engine 23-1 set up Positive Pressure Ventilation to eliminate the smoke. Crews cleared the scene shortly thereafter.

At 7:11pm on Saturday, December 26th, volunteers from Avondale Fire Company were dispatched for a reported haybale fire in the 200 block of Ellicott Road in New Garden Township. Crews arrived to find a large pile of stacked haybales burning out of control. Avondale's Chief 23 had Command at the scene. Due to the lack of a water supply near the scene, a tanker shuttle was established at Avondale Fire Company's firehouse. Chief 23 placed the fire under control at 9:28pm and the... last of the crews cleared the scene at 4:00am Sunday morning. Avondale Fire Company would like to thank Kennett Fire Company No. 1, Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company, Longwood Fire Company, and West Grove Fire Company for their assistance at the scene. Avondale Fire Company 12.10.2020

At 8:45am this morning, Avondale Fire Company was dispatched for an accident at the intersection of Rt. 41 and Penn Green Road in New Garden Township involving a jack-knifed tractor-trailer and a dump truck. Fire crews assisted with the extensive roadway cleanup and fire police provided traffic control in the area. Crews cleared the scene at approximately 10:40am.
